Description
Jack the Ripper is the captain of the Green Mantis, one of the nine Magic Knight squads of the Clover Kingdom. He is a tall, lean man, standing at 197 centimeters, with sharp golden eyes and medium-length black hair. A distinctive thin, red scar or birthmark runs vertically from his forehead, over his left eye, and down to his chin, giving him an aggressive and menacing appearance. His typical attire consists of a light green shirt that leaves his abdomen exposed, form-fitting black pants, and his squad's robe, which he later wears with a design resembling insect wings to mirror his squad's emblem.

Born a commoner to a family of small game hunters in the mountains, Jack experienced a tragic turning point at the age of thirteen when his father was killed during a hunt. In response, he hunted down the monster responsible for his father's death and subsequently decided to join the Magic Knights, rising through the ranks to become a captain. His low-born origins influence his leadership, as he is known to actively incorporate commoners into his squad, though he was initially skeptical of methods that included even the lowest classes.

Personality wise, Jack is defined by his aggressive, bellicose nature and a near-obsessive love for combat and destruction. He is almost always seen with a wide, sadistic grin and has a habit of running his tongue along his magic blades or sticking it out in excitement. He revels in the challenge of facing strong enemies and durable defenses, finding immense pleasure in the act of cutting things apart. This makes him appear chaotic and unpredictable, but beneath his bloodthirsty exterior lies a fierce loyalty to the Clover Kingdom. He is arrogant and often speaks in a rough, demanding tone, even towards his subordinates like Sekke Bronzazza, whom he treats harshly. Despite his menacing demeanor, he possesses a strong sense of duty as a protector of the realm.

Jack serves as the captain of the Green Mantis, a role that places him at the forefront of the kingdom's major military conflicts. He is a formidable combatant who fights on the front lines during the Elf Reincarnation arc, where he battles within the Shadow Palace, and later during the Spade Kingdom Raid arc. His role is that of a powerful asset and a wild card in battle, often being deployed to handle enemies whose magic requires constant adaptation to defeat.

His most significant relationship is with Yami Sukehiro, the captain of the Black Bulls. The two share a fierce rivalry, constantly bickering, trading insults, and competing with each other. Yami frequently mocks Jacks tall, slender frame with nicknames like "vertical weirdo" or "long man." However, this rivalry is rooted in mutual respect for each others strength and combat ability. Their partnership is so volatile that they once destroyed an entire mountain during a casual fight. Despite their constant fighting, Jack holds Yami in high regard as a worthy opponent and comrade. When Yami was captured by Dante Zogratis of the Spade Kingdoms Dark Triad, Jack immediately intended to rescue him, demonstrating a deep, if understated, bond of friendship and loyalty.

Throughout the series, Jack exhibits a notable capacity for development, primarily in his tactical approach to combat. While he initially appears as a simple battle maniac, his fighting style proves to be highly analytical. He learns to adapt his magic on the fly to counter specific opponents. He also shows a begrudging respect for strength in others, such as when he acknowledges the efforts of lower-ranked knights like Magna Swing and Zora Ideale after they prove themselves in battle against a superior foe. By the final arc, he demonstrates the ultimate form of his loyalty and duty, fighting against impossible odds in the battle against Lucius Zogratis and his Paladins.

Jack the Rippers defining trait is his unique magical attribute known as Severing Magic. This allows him to manifest large, scythe-like blades of green energy from his limbs, most notably his forearms, resembling the forelegs of a praying mantis. The true power of this magic lies not in raw force, but in its unparalleled adaptability. In the middle of a fight, Jacks blades can alter their properties to match and counteract the specific nature of an opponents magic. The more he slashes against a defense, the more his blades sharpen and adapt, allowing him to cut through virtually anything given enough time. This ability has allowed him to sever spatial magic, which distorts the laws of physics, and even the regeneration and gravity magic of a devil-host like Dante. His signature spells include Death Scythe, a powerful cleaving strike, and its more aggressive form, Death Scythe: Lunatic Slash, which unleashes a chaotic flurry of flying slashes. Combined with his immense magical power as a Grand Magic Knight and his proficiency in Reinforcement Magic to enhance his physical speed and strength, Jack is considered one of the most dangerous magic knights in the kingdom, capable of turning the tide of battle by adapting to seemingly invincible abilities.
