Description
Hidomi Hibajiri is a fourteen-year-old girl and the central character of the second anime season. She lives with her mother, Hinae, and helps out at the family's cafe in a town called Mabase. A significant absence looms over her life: her father is gone, and both Hidomi and her mother are waiting for his return, a situation that has left her feeling emotionally adrift and stagnant. Her father gave her a pair of distinctive cat-ear-shaped headphones, which she wears constantly, and what she chooses to listen to on them is nothing at all; for her, they are a tool to block out the world around her.

At the start of her story, Hidomi comes across as deeply stoic, antisocial, and apathetic, showing little interest in the events or people around her. This personality is described by other characters, including her own mother and the alien Haruko Haruhara, as that of a tsundere, someone who acts coldly to hide their true feelings. Her inner world is far more turbulent than her exterior suggests, manifesting in repetitive, vivid nightmares of a destroyed and rotting world where her own body decays and fuses with a mysterious robot. These dreams hint at her deepest, darkest desire: for everything to be destroyed so it could start over, a wish rooted in the hope that a new beginning would bring her father back and erase the pain her mother endures. She finds the pressure of confronting reality so overwhelming that she prefers to use her headphones to put her world on pause.

Hidomi’s primary motivation throughout the story is shaped by this internal conflict. She is initially driven by a desire to escape reality and the pain of her father's abandonment. When the chaos brought by Haruko and others forces her to engage with the world, her motivations shift, and she begins to act in defense of the connections she starts to form, eventually showing a strong will and a willingness to fight to protect those she cares about. Her role in the larger story is similar to a vessel or a key. Haruko seeks to exploit the immense power within Hidomi’s N.O. channel to capture the cosmic being Atomsk, while another alien, Julia Jinyu, tries to protect Hidomi from being used as a tool. Medical Mechanica also has an interest in her, and her headphones act as an inhibitor, placed to control her powers.

Her relationships are central to her development. Her mother, Hinae, cares for her deeply but is frustrated with her sullen attitude, leading to tense but loving interactions. A fellow classmate, Ko Ide, has a crush on her and risks his own life to protect her. Over the course of the story, Hidomi softens around him, and their mutual affection develops into a romantic relationship. Her dynamic with Haruko is purely adversarial and manipulative; Haruko sees her as nothing more than a tool to get what she wants. In contrast, Jinyu, who becomes a maid at her mother’s cafe, serves as a strange mentor, offering harsh advice and trying to shield her from greater dangers.

Hidomi undergoes a significant transformation. She begins as a quiet, depressed, and isolated girl who uses her headphones to cut herself off from a painful reality. Through her chaotic encounters and the relationships she builds, particularly with Ide, she gradually becomes more active and emotionally open. By the end of the story, she has shed her nihilism, forged a new purpose for herself, and is able to take control of her own power and fight back against Haruko to save the people important to her.

Her notable abilities are tied to her N.O. channel, which is far more powerful than that of previous characters. She can use it to transport objects and people over long distances, suck people into a void leaving only their clothes behind, and spit them out again as a black goo. Her headphones have a security protocol that can cause them to drill into her skull to protect her from tampering. When she learns to embrace her power, they merge with her, transforming her into a powerful, armored cyborg capable of flight and combat. In this enhanced state, she can also merge with the robot Canti, generating a set of armor and wielding a guitar as a powerful blunt weapon, much like other musical instruments in the series.
