Description
Presidente is the supreme leader of APE, the ruling council that governs what remains of humanity in the world of DARLING in the FRANXX. He holds the title of chairman of the APE council and therefore exercises authority over all known human society, including the plantations where the children known as Parasites are raised. To the Parasites and the adult population, he is known as Papa, a paternal and godlike figure who is revered and worshipped as humanity's protector and guide. The only notable exception among the central cast is Zero Two, who does not share this reverence.

His public persona is refined, calm, and methodical. He speaks in a sophisticated and measured manner, presenting himself as a wise and benevolent ruler who makes carefully ordered decisions for the good of civilization. In this role, he oversees the smooth operation of the plantations and directs humanity's defensive efforts against the monstrous creatures known as Klaxosaurs. Under this composed exterior, however, his true nature is far more alien and sinister. He is not a human being at all but a being who has existed for more than sixty million years, and he is revealed to be the true identity behind VIRM, the overarching antagonistic force of the story.

His motivation is not the protection of humanity but its transformation. As VIRM, he seeks to strip humanity of its individuality, emotional bonds, and free will, drawing people into a state of perfect, willess unity under his control. His role as Papa and chairman is essentially a long-running deception meant to steer human civilization toward this goal, presenting subjugation as salvation. He works alongside the other masked members of APE, and the organization collaborated with Dr. FRANXX in the creation of the FRANXX program, though even that partnership is ultimately subordinate to his hidden agenda.

In terms of relationships, his most significant connection is with the Parasites, who view him as a beloved father figure and religious icon. This bond is especially poignant with characters like the members of Squad 13, who were raised to obey and trust him completely. His relationship with Zero Two is defined by her rejection of his authority, and his confrontations with Hiro and Zero Two ultimately expose his plans and place his deception in direct opposition to the protagonists' defense of love and individual choice. His relationship with the Klaxosaurs is initially presented as one of enemy conflict, though the full truth of his connection to them and to the greater history of the world is tied to his ancient origins and his long-running war with the Klaxosaur species.

His development across the story moves from distant, mysterious authority figure to openly revealed antagonist. Early on he appears as an unshakable, almost divine administrator whose guidance is never questioned, but as the series progresses, the cracks in his benevolent facade show, and the final arc reveals him as VIRM, the orchestrator of humanity's crises and the embodiment of an opposing philosophy to the freedom of the heart.

His notable abilities stem largely from his true nature as VIRM. He commands the full technological and military resources of APE, including the massive weapons systems and defensive capabilities used against the Klaxosaurs. As an advanced alien being, he is extraordinarily long-lived, possesses overwhelming combat power, and is capable of manifesting numerous war forms and forces when his true identity is revealed, allowing him to wage a devastating final assault against those who defy him. His greatest ability, however, may be his persuasive and controlling influence, through which he manipulates entire populations into trusting and worshipping him.
