Description
Drole, also known to humans as Balor, is a giant of immense stature, standing over twenty-five meters tall with stony skin and four powerful arms. He is recognized within his clan as their founder, former king, and a god-like figure, a reputation born from his overwhelming size and magical power, which made other giants revere him out of fear rather than kinship. Despite this revered status, Drole experienced profound loneliness due to his unique form, which set him apart even among his own race. He is a member of the Ten Commandments, the elite demon force serving under the Demon King, bearing the commandment of Patience. This decree inflicts amplified pain on anyone who cannot endure in his presence. His total power level is measured at 54,000, composed of 14,000 in magic, 36,500 in strength, and 3,500 in spirit.

Calm, rational, and deeply formal in his manner of speaking, Drole typically presents a poised and collected exterior. He harbors a strong dislike for the human-given name Balor, which references a mythological evil eye, preferring his true name. His personality is marked by a sense of isolation and a pragmatic, almost fatalistic, view of survival. His actions are driven by the survival of his race and, on a more personal level, a search for belonging. He eventually finds a sense of camaraderie among other outcasts, such as the Fairy King Gloxinia and the demon Meliodas, before the latter's betrayal.

Drole's role in the story is that of a formidable antagonist who is also a tragic figure of a bygone era. Three thousand years before the main events, he fought as an ally of Meliodas and the Goddess Clan in the Holy War against the Demon Clan. However, after his magic was sealed and he was defeated by Zeldris, he was faced with a stark choice: side with the demons or face death. Believing that giants had no other option, he accepted an invitation to join the demon faction, which consisted of other warriors considered outcasts, becoming the Commandment of Patience. He is ultimately a reluctant villain who, after being freed from his commandment service, seeks to atone for his past by aiding the next generation.

Key relationships define his arc. He shares a particularly strong bond with Gloxinia, the Fairy King who similarly defected to the demons. Together, they are often in agreement and fight as a pair, with Gloxinia affectionately calling him Drole-kun. After leaving the Ten Commandments, they appear together to buy time for the Seven Deadly Sins against the powerful demon Chandler, ultimately sacrificing their lives in battle. Drole also has a significant connection to Diane, the Serpent's Sin of Envy. He sees in her the future of the giant race. During a trial he and Gloxinia set up for Diane and King, Drole is astonished when Diane rejects his own binary belief of side with demons or choose death, instead choosing to flee. Her choice, which he initially viewed as impossibly shameful for a giant, impresses him and leads him to entrust her with the legacy and hope for the prosperity of the giant clan. He was also formerly a close ally of Meliodas during the Holy War, and in his final moments, Drole expresses a wish for the future happiness of Meliodas and Elizabeth.

Development in Drole is seen through his shifting allegiances and his eventual rejection of the demon side. Initially presented as a high-ranking member of the Ten Commandments, he later abandons his post after witnessing the determination of the Seven Deadly Sins. His final act is a heroic sacrifice alongside Gloxinia, where he abandons his cynical pragmatism to directly oppose a powerful demon, fighting not for survival but for the future of others. This culminates in his death, but not before passing on his hopes and the responsibility for his people to Diane.

Drole's notable abilities stem from his magic, named Ground. This power is a vastly superior version of the giant race's standard Creation ability, granting him incredible control over the earth on a massive scale. He can reshape entire landscapes, such as when he created a sprawling, miles-long death trap labyrinth filled with traps. He can summon gigantic hands of earth to crush or capture foes, manipulate stone pillars and projectiles, and create golems to fight for him. His defensive technique, Heavy Metal, hardens his body to a diamond-like level that can nullify even hellfire. He also possesses a unique magical eye, which is said to see all and was the model for the magical item Balor's Magical Eye used by Merlin. This eye grants him abilities like reading the hearts and power levels of others. Furthermore, Drole can perform a sacred dance unique to him, which deepens his connection to the earth and continuously increases his power level the longer he performs it.
