TV-Series
Description
Maryrose and Rosemary form a Shadow master and Living Doll pair living in the Shadows House. Maryrose manifests as a featureless black silhouette, wearing a distinct ensemble: a frilly white shirt, purple rose-patterned corset, pink skirt, dark-green breeches, and white high-heels adorned with purple roses. Her silhouette hair is styled in a long braid secured by a rose clip. Rosemary possesses long brown hair, usually in a loose braid tied with a blue bow, and distinctive red eyes. She wears a Victorian-style maid uniform featuring dark sleeves, a white apron, and skirt.

Maryrose displays an outgoing, dependable nature with a dramatic flair. She delights in dancing and instructs others, including Kate. As the most senior Shadow in the Children's Building, younger Shadows frequently admire her. Rosemary serves as a gentle, kind mentor to younger Living Dolls like Emilico, Lou, and Mia. Leading Cleaning Squad 10, she is characterized as predictable yet exceptionally caring, often adopting a big sister or motherly role. Barbie occasionally teases her as "Lazy Rose," citing perceived clumsiness.

Maryrose holds the unique status of a morph who retained memories from before her mimicry existence. This awareness drove her to uncover the Shadows House's darker secrets, including the brainwashing of Living Dolls and their ultimate fate after their masters' adulthood. She deliberately prevented Rosemary from consuming the brainwashing coffee, preserving her free will. Rosemary's background contrasts sharply as an abducted human.

Their relationship significantly departs from standard Shadow-Doll dynamics. Maryrose treats Rosemary as an equal partner, fostering a profound mutual bond. They exhibit exceptional coordination, particularly in dance. Their deep closeness and final actions lead some to interpret their relationship romantically, though the series offers no explicit label. They share absolute trust and collaborate on plans to defy the house's authority.

Maryrose wields a physical-type soot power enabling remote manipulation of small, light objects. After re-awakening her abilities, she gained the capacity to create and control scorches (soot creatures), absorb others' soot to amplify them, and merge large numbers of scorches into a formidable Phantom. She employed this power to orchestrate two "ghost incidents" as diversions. Rosemary demonstrates notable courage and resilience, suffering severe soot sickness twice: first protecting Emilico from a scorch during cleaning, and later during their staged ghost incidents.

Maryrose masterminded the initial Phantom incident to test her re-awakened powers and identify others questioning the house's rules. She later guided Kate by explaining soot coal and intermediate processing. Rosemary led her cleaning squad through routine duties and emergencies, including Phantom attack aftermaths. As Maryrose uncovered more about the house's oppressive nature—especially the grim fate awaiting Living Dolls after the "Invitation" ceremony—they jointly planned an escape. They staged a second ghost incident, using Rosemary's controlled soot sickness to create chaos and buy time.

When Edward discovered their rebellion and moved to capture them, Maryrose and Rosemary chose to leap from the high tower's window rather than face interrogation, forced unification, or execution. They embraced before jumping, sharing a final smile. Kate attempted to cushion their fall with her soot powers, but their survival remains unconfirmed.

Maryrose maintained complex relationships. She shared a past friendship with Barbara that deteriorated, particularly after Barbara's debut. She respected Christopher as a close friend but clarified their relationship was not romantic. She clashed ideologically with Anthony and despised Edward for his callous disregard following Ed's death after unification. Rosemary maintained respectful but strained interactions with Barbie, her former close friend; Anthony's departure and subsequent secrecy created a rift.
