Ray White, born in a small eastern village, became a war orphan during the Far East campaign. He was subsequently adopted and mentored by Lydia Ainsworth, the previous Iceblade Sorcerer. His military service culminated in witnessing Howard Kennett's death and causing a magical overheat incident that severely injured Lydia, forcing her retirement. This trauma burdened him with guilt over lives lost, shaping his reluctance to kill and preference for non-lethal solutions such as sealing enemies in ice. He inherited the title of Iceblade Sorcerer. Guided by Lydia, he enrolled at Arnold Academy of Magical Arts, concealing his identity as one of the Seven Grand Sorcerers to seek an ordinary school life. As the academy's first commoner student, he faced initial discrimination from noble classmates but gradually formed friendships with Amelia Rose, Elisa Griffith, Rebecca Bradley, Clarisse Cleveland, and Evi Armstrong. His relationship with Albert Allium shifted from hostility to mutual respect after Albert learned Ray's true identity. Ray possesses short black hair, blue eyes, stands 173 cm tall, and has a slim build masking a muscular physique. Activating his Chronos Lock ability transforms his hair to a bluish-white color. He typically wears the standard academy uniform. His personality blends extreme politeness—using formal honorifics even with friends—with optimism and a carefree attitude focused on making friends. Despite his friendly demeanor, he lacks common sense, misinterpreting social interactions such as mistaking bullying for curses. He is a natural womanizer, often unintentionally making female companions blush with compliments. Ray is skilled at cross-dressing, using magic to alter his voice and body structure for infiltration or other purposes, though he does not conceal this ability from close acquaintances. Ray maintains complex relationships with fellow Grand Sorcerers: Lydia as his protective mentor, Carol Caroline as an unwelcome maternal figure due to her inappropriate advances, and Lucas Frost as a rival seeking future duels. He avoids acknowledging Carol whenever possible. Magically, Ray wields ice-based abilities through temporary release of the Chronos Lock—a power limiter Lydia imposed to prevent life-threatening overheating. His techniques include creating Icicle Blades for offense or defense, Frame Lock traps, and Ice Bloom Profusion for freezing opponents. He is also a master swordsman capable of cutting through magic and employs Anti-Material Code spells to nullify other magic by reverting it to primal energy. Prolonged use of his ice magic risks physical deterioration, forcing him to rely on swordsmanship when the Chronos Lock is active. Throughout his academy life, Ray confronts conspiracies involving organizations like Yusenix and Eugenics, gradually reconciling his traumatic past with his desire for normalcy. He develops emotionally through friendships, particularly with Amelia and Elisa—both of whom develop romantic feelings he remains oblivious to—while maintaining his resolve to protect others without lethal force.
