Description
Centorea Shianus, often called Cerea by those closest to her, is a centaur and one of the primary homestay guests in the series. She is the third non-human resident to join the household, entering the story when she literally collides with the protagonist due to a humorous misunderstanding of a Japanese urban legend about a corner with poor visibility. Hailing from a family with a proud knightly tradition, Cerea is characterized by an exceptionally strong sense of honor, justice, and discipline, which shapes nearly every aspect of her behavior and interactions.

Born on November 28th, Cerea possesses a striking and formidable physique. Her body is that of a powerful, light chestnut-colored horse, surmounted by the torso of a tall, blonde-haired, and blue-eyed young woman. Her human half stands approximately 190 to 192 centimeters tall, and her equine body gives her a total weight of over 400 kilograms, with a top running speed reaching 60 kilometers per hour. Her physical measurements are notably extreme, with a bust of 103 centimeters (I-cup) and a waist of 61 centimeters, while her equine hips are considered immeasurable. This large bust is an evolutionary trait among centaurs, as their offspring are large at birth and require substantial amounts of milk. As a herbivore, her diet consists solely of vegetables, with a particular fondness for a specific brand of carrots called Golden Time Carrots, though she is somewhat embarrassed by this preference. Her senses, particularly her sense of taste, are exceptionally keen, allowing her to detect minute flavor differences.

Cerea’s personality is defined by her unwavering commitment to a self-imposed code of chivalry. She speaks and acts with a formal, archaic demeanor reminiscent of a medieval knight, which often leads to her being the voice of reason and the straight character among the more eccentric monster girls. Despite her stoic and serious exterior, she harbors a deeply romantic and even possessive nature, frequently engaging in elaborate fantasies about her future with the person she serves, though she becomes flustered and embarrassed when these feelings are brought to the surface. Her inflexible and prideful adherence to her ideals can sometimes cause difficulties, particularly when faced with modern customs or tasks she considers beneath a knight, such as working on a farm. However, she is capable of recognizing her own failings, showing humility, and learning from her mistakes. She is also surprisingly vulnerable to her primal instincts, such as during a full moon, against which she can only resist briefly before succumbing.

Cerea’s primary motivation and defining role in the story is her self-appointed duty as a knight and loyal servant to the human protagonist, Kimihito Kurusu, whom she addresses as Master or Milord. This lifelong oath of loyalty was sworn after an incident where Kimihito bravely stepped in front of what they both believed to be her real sword to protect her from an attacker, an act of selflessness that deeply moved her. While her loyalty is her foremost principle, her feelings for Kimihito are genuine and romantic, creating an internal conflict between her duty as a retainer and her desires as a woman. This is further complicated by her own family history, as she later learns that her father was a human man, making her a half-blood, and her mother ultimately gave her blessing for Cerea to choose her own partner. Her motivations also include a search for a suitable master, which initially brought her to Japan, and a desire to uphold her family’s name and traditions.

Within the household, Cerea acts as a dedicated protector, often standing guard or accompanying Kimihito to shield him from perceived threats, especially from newer, more predatory residents like Rachnera Arachnera. Her key relationships with the other housemates are complex. She shares a heated but ultimately friendly rivalry with Miia, the lamia, frequently arguing and competing for Kimihito’s attention, even as they respect one another. She was initially fearful and distrustful of the arachne Rachnera, but after Rachnera rescued her from a dangerous situation, Cerea began to trust her despite still being unnerved by her teasing and use of webs. She holds deep respect for the mermaid Meroune Lorelei, having immediately recognized her royal bearing. While she was initially wary of the slime girl Suu, fearing for Kimihito’s safety, she eventually accepted her as part of the family. Outside the home, she has a respectful relationship with Polt, the kobold who runs a sports club, and one of mutual frustration and distrust with the government agent Ms. Smith, whose laziness she finds unbecoming of an official.

Cerea’s development throughout the story involves a gradual softening of her rigid worldview. She learns to not judge others by their appearance alone, as seen in her evolving relationship with Rachnera. She also begins to reconcile her knightly duties with her personal feelings, slowly becoming more accepting of her own romantic and even sexual desires for Kimihito, moving beyond mere fantasy. Her personal growth is underscored by her reconciliation with her mother, who arrives to pressure her into an arranged marriage, only for Cerea to stand her ground and earn her mother’s respect.

In terms of notable abilities, Cerea is a highly skilled and formidable combatant. She is proficient with a variety of weapons, including the sword, spear, bow, and even dual-wielded sickles, which she once used to shear sheep with incredible speed. She usually carries a model sword, but her immense strength allows her to wield it with deadly efficiency, capable of cutting through solid objects like water jugs and doors. Her centaur body grants her superhuman strength, enabling her to lift multiple people at once or knock down a wild boar with a single blow. Despite her combat prowess, she has notable limitations, as her physical attacks are ineffective against fluid-based creatures like slimes, and her strict adherence to the law means she refrains from using a real blade. Other quirks tied to her horse physiology include a tendency to sleep standing up, a lack of tolerance for alcohol, a need for a long-handled brush for bathing, and a unique sensitivity around her tail and the tips of her ears.
