Description
Ema Hashima is a character from the anime Katana Maidens: Toji no Miko. She is an alumna of Renpu Girls' School and serves as the president of Minoseki Academy, one of the five prestigious schools that form the central institutions for Toji, the sword-wielding guardians against supernatural threats known as aradama.

Born with the name Ema Kagashima, she has neck-length brown hair with bangs hanging on the left side and olive-green eyes. In her role as academy president, she typically wears professional business attire consisting of a white inner dress and a mauve suit, with the crest of Minoseki Academy visible on her left collar.

As a personality, Ema carries a professional and composed air, yet also possesses a deep sense of compassion for the students under her care. She is described as easy-going and quick-thinking. While she holds a subordinate position to Yukari Origami, the head of the powerful Origami Family, Ema consistently prioritises the welfare of her students, even when they are accused of serious offenses. She handles the worries of each student with gentle tolerance, which makes her widely adored by the academy's attendees.

Ema's background is tied to a major incident known as the Great Disaster of Sagami Bay. During this event, she belonged to an advance party led by Yukari Origami on a mission to defeat a Great Aradama. As the mission progressed, Yukari ordered Ema to retreat with other fatigued members. Two years after this disaster, following Yukari's rise to head of the Origami Family, Ema was appointed as the president of Minoseki Academy.

Within the story, Ema plays a crucial supporting role from a position of administrative authority. She is responsible for official ceremonies, such as handing out certificates to students selected as representatives for national tournaments. When a student named Hiyori attacks Yukari Origami and another student, Kanami Etou, becomes an accomplice, Ema is summoned for questioning by the Special Sword Administration Bureau. Even while detained, she reassures other students about their friends' safety and secretly arranges assistance, passing information that helps fugitives find shelter with a retired Toji. She later continues to provide aid by facilitating the escape of Mai Yanase and Sayaka Itomi, passing them to the care of another school's president while fully aware of the consequences of her actions. Ultimately, Ema is detained again when Minoseki Academy is accused of cooperating in widespread terrorist activities.

Key relationships define much of her role. She has a direct and loyal but concerned working relationship with Yukari Origami, though she does not hesitate to act independently to protect students. She also maintains positive interactions with the presidents of other schools within the Five Traditions network, working with them to safeguard young Toji.

Ema's development sees her transition from an active Toji on a dangerous mission to an administrator who uses her position and influence to protect the next generation from behind the scenes. Her notable abilities as a former Toji are not detailed extensively, but her effectiveness comes from her quick thinking, her ability to operate within the political structure of the Sword Administration Bureau, and her network of contacts, which she leverages to aid students in trouble.
