TV-Series
Description
Mei Fang is a supporting character who works as a waitress and de facto manager at a Chinese restaurant in Russell City's Chinatown. She is the granddaughter of Feilong, a retired Makai Alchemist who is the restaurant's true owner, though he tends to remain in the background while she handles daily operations. Raised within the world of Makai Alchemists, Mei Fang possesses knowledge of this secret realm, but her formal training appears limited compared to full-fledged alchemists or knights.

In terms of personality, Mei Fang is characterized by a tough, no-nonsense demeanor, particularly when managing the three chefs who work in the kitchen. Despite this stern exterior, she has a caring and protective nature. She demonstrates considerable courage, willing to risk her own safety to protect others, such as the young girl Sophie, from the supernatural Horrors that threaten the city. She also serves as a caretaker and medical attendant for the injured Makai Knight Lukather Harden, showing patience and concern beneath her sharp words.

Mei Fang's role in the story is primarily that of an ally and assistant to the main characters. She provides a base of operations at the restaurant, which is also where the protagonist Sword lives. She takes on the task of waking Sword each morning, using methods as direct as striking a gong to rouse him from sleep. When Sophie becomes involved with the group, Mei Fang helps look after her as well. During dangerous situations, she assists in evacuating civilians to protected areas and uses her limited magical skills to defend against Horrors.

Her key relationships include a close, if somewhat exasperated, connection with Sword, whom she treats as a lazy but necessary presence. She shares a deeper bond with Luke, for whom she harbors unacknowledged romantic feelings. She expresses this affection through tough love, scolding him when he is reckless or emotionally overwhelmed while simultaneously ensuring he is fed and his wounds are treated. Her grandfather Feilong serves as her anchor to the Makai world, and it is implied she learned much of what she knows from him. By the end of the story, a year after the main events, she is still running the restaurant, though she has grown more impatient, partly due to worrying about Luke, who has left on his own journey.

Regarding her development, Mei Fang remains a consistent figure throughout the narrative, but her hidden feelings for Luke become more apparent, and she gains a greater sense of independence in managing crises. Her notable abilities include proficiency in martial arts, though it is unclear if this stems from formal Makai training or her Chinese heritage. She also has some alchemical knowledge, specifically how to use Madō Bagua Tags, which are magical talismans that can ward off Horrors. Her most practical skill, however, is her cooking, as she was raised in a kitchen and can prepare Chinese cuisine expertly. While she is not a frontline fighter, her courage and resourcefulness make her a dependable figure in the fight against the Horrors.
