Description
Groundpounder, also known as the Beast from Kaon and the Pulverizer of the Pits, is a formidable Decepticon gladiator from the 2015 animated series Transformers: Robots in Disguise. He is a massive, gorilla-like Cybertronian whose entire existence revolves around combat and proving his dominance in the arena.

His background is rooted in the brutal gladiatorial pits of Kaon on Cybertron, where he was a legendary champion under the tutelage of his coach and manager, Headlock. Groundpounder's signature moves, which include the Fiery Fists of Furnax, the Polyhex Power-Slam, and the Praxus Piledriver, made him a fan favorite and a terror to his opponents. His raw power was said to be a match even for a Dinobot. This career came to an end when he and Headlock were accused of cheating and subsequently banned from the gladiator circuit. Enraged by the accusation, Groundpounder went on a destructive rampage across Cybertron that required the deployment of the Elite Guard to stop him. He was arrested and placed in a stasis pod aboard the prison ship Alchemor.

Groundpounder is defined by his single-minded and aggressive personality. Violence is essentially all he knows, and his sole motivation is to prove he is the biggest and strongest fighter in existence. He is vain and boasts constantly, particularly about his ability to defeat Dinobots, who are among the strongest of Cybertronians. While not very imaginative with his fighting moves, his sheer physical power makes him incredibly dangerous. He also craves an audience, enjoying the roar of a crowd, even when it consists of humans. He has no moral objection to letting Headlock fight dirty or cheat on his behalf, as long as he gets to be the one in the ring doing the physical damage.

In the story of Robots in Disguise, Groundpounder is freed from his stasis pod when the Alchemor crashes on Earth. He and Headlock hide out at a construction site outside Crown City, where they take on Earth-based alternate modes; Groundpounder transforms into an excavator. Driven by a need to fight again, he sees an advertisement for the Rumbledome, a human demolition derby arena, and decides to make his comeback there. He forces his way into the ring, defeats the arena's champion monster truck with Headlock's secret sabotage, and is offered a permanent spot in the show by the human manager who believes them to be elaborate remote-controlled robots.

His most significant role is as the primary antagonist of the episode The Champ, where he faces the Autobot Dinobot, Grimlock. Groundpounder is eager for a rematch against a real opponent and initially overpowers Grimlock with his brute force and practiced wrestling moves. The battle becomes highly destructive, damaging the stadium itself. Ultimately, Groundpounder is defeated when the small Autobot Fixit, a former fan of his who was disillusioned by the cheating, coaches Grimlock on how to counter his predictable fighting style, leading to Groundpounder being knocked out by the Dinobot's signature cannonball attack.

The relationship with his coach, Headlock, is the most crucial in Groundpounder's life. Headlock acts as his strategist, manager, and accomplice, devising the plans and performing the underhanded sabotage that secures their victories while Groundpounder provides the raw power and serves as the public spectacle. Groundpounder trusts Headlock implicitly, and the two function as a single, crooked team. After his defeat, Groundpounder is later seen among the Decepticon forces assembled by Steeljaw when he breaks into the Autobot scrapyard and releases more prisoners from their stasis pods. He joins Steeljaw's faction and participates in the final events of the series, where he eagerly seeks a rematch with Grimlock, only to be neutralized once again and placed back into stasis.

Groundpounder's notable abilities are almost entirely physical. He possesses immense strength, endurance, and a vast repertoire of grappling and slamming techniques, all with flamboyant names derived from Cybertronian cities. While not a tactical thinker himself, he is a highly skilled and experienced hand-to-hand combatant, relying on power and practiced moves rather than clever improvisation. His Earth alternate mode is a construction vehicle excavator, which suits his heavy, ground-based fighting style.
