Description
Ragebyte is a Decepticon-aligned Sharkticon who appears as a one-time antagonist in the 2015 Transformers: Robots in Disguise series. He is a scientist and weapons specialist whose primary focus is his own research, and he shows little interest in anything outside of it. His work centers on explosives, and he came to Earth to test ways of combining Cybertronian technology with ordinary Earth materials in order to build larger and more powerful bombs. During his experiments he discovered that extruded polystyrene was a highly useful additive. He approaches his work with a cold, single-minded attitude, disliking any unexpected interference with his projects, and he is openly willing to treat any Autobot who gets in his way as a subject for dissection.

Before the events of his main appearance, Ragebyte was captured by the Autobot Windblade and sealed in a stasis pod. While the pod was being transported along with other stored equipment, an accident allowed him to break free. He recovered his unfinished bomb and went to a dock area to steal more polystyrene to complete it. When the Autobots Sideswipe and Blurr caught up with him, he used an energy beam fired from his mouth to escape their initial attempt to stop him, and during a chase along the river he forced their boat to crash and then threw them off when they tried to grab him. He then attached his completed explosive to Crown City Bridge, intending the detonation as a field test of his creation. A fight followed on the bridge against Bumblebee, Drift, and Grimlock, and Ragebyte was ultimately defeated when Sideswipe struck him from above, while Blurr carried the bomb far enough away that its blast could cause no harm.

Ragebyte's breakout was the direct result of Sideswipe's reckless handling of the stasis pod, and the mission to recapture him became tied to Sideswipe's efforts to prove his value to the team after his mistake. Ragebyte himself has no meaningful alliances or ongoing relationships with other characters; his encounters with the Autobots are purely adversarial, and he works alone. Because he appears only as a one-time villain, he does not undergo any notable character development. He is introduced as a threat, opposed, defeated, and placed back into confinement without any change in his outlook or behavior.

His notable abilities include a powerful energy beam projected from his mouth, which he uses both offensively and as a means of escape, as well as considerable combat skill and durability, as shown when he holds his own against multiple Autobots at once. His most distinctive trait, however, is his scientific expertise, particularly in chemistry and explosives engineering. He is also described as having dealt in weapons and as having been arrested for supplying criminals with armaments. After his defeat, Ragebyte was returned to a stasis pod at the Autobots' base, and his pod was later moved aboard Prime Force One.
