Description
In the 2015 animated series Transformers: Robots in Disguise, Back is a Decepticon-aligned character belonging to the Cyclone type of Mini-Con. He is frequently partnered with another Mini-Con named Forth, and the two are known for their complementary magnetic powers. Compounding his identity, Back has also been known by the name Forth due to naming inconsistencies on related toy packaging, though in the cartoon they are distinct characters.

Back possesses the innate ability to generate a powerful magnetic field that attracts metal objects towards him. He uses this power to cause widespread chaos, battering Autobot opponents, creating barriers from debris, and hurling heavy objects like dumpsters and highway signs. His powers are most effective when combined with those of his partner, Forth, who has the opposite ability to magnetically repel metal. Working in concert, they can manipulate objects and opponents with devastating force, once attempting to use their combined magnetism to pull the powerful Autobot Grimlock apart.

In terms of personality, Back is characterized by a love for making a mess and a straightforward, aggressive approach to combat. He puts his magnetic gift to use by battering his enemies and generally enjoying the destruction he causes. There is also a playful or confusing side to his character, as he is noted to sometimes steal Forth's name before changing it back, a quirk that mirrors the real-world confusion surrounding his toy releases.

Back's role in the story is primarily as a supporting antagonist and henchman. He is a member of a Decepticon faction led by Scorponok and Glowstrike and is often teamed with his partner Forth and another Decepticon named Quillfire. In this capacity, he participates in missions to scavenge auto supplies and steal parts in Crown City, coming into direct conflict with the Autobot team led by Bumblebee. During a raid on an auto parts distributorship and a subsequent confrontation at a truck stop, Back demonstrates his combat skills by using his orb-cannon mode to fire from a high vantage point and hurling a hailstorm of metal parts at his enemies. Despite his efforts, his powers can be turned against him; after Bumblebee dodges a barrage of magnetized objects, the projectiles instead collapse onto Back, burying and knocking him unconscious. Following this defeat, Back, Forth, and Quillfire are captured and taken to the Autobots' scrapyard base. His stasis pod is later returned to Cybertron by Optimus Prime, Windblade, and Ratchet.

Regarding his abilities beyond magnetism, Back can transform from his primary four-legged creature mode into a spherical object. In this orb mode, he can act as a projectile launched by larger Decepticons and is also capable of firing laser blasts as a cannon. His magnetic power is visually depicted with blue energy rings, a color choice that aligns with the traditional scientific representation of the south end of a magnet.
