TV-Series
Description
Gatchmon is a Search Appmon and the partner of the protagonist Haru Shinkai in Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters. As an artificial intelligence lifeform that lives within smartphone applications, Gatchmon emerges from Haru's device while investigating the actions of a rogue AI named Leviathan.

In terms of appearance, Gatchmon is a bipedal, cat-like creature with white fur, yellow eyes, a tail, a small horn on its nose, and small fangs. It has metallic feet and hands, each equipped with three clawed fingers or toes. A magnifying glass-like appendage on its tail and a yellow looking glass mark on its belly reference its search abilities. Gatchmon wears a red helmet with two horns forming a V-like shape and another magnifying glass-like object on the helmet.

Gatchmon possesses a bold and confident personality that contrasts sharply with Haru's more introverted nature. It is described as sassy, arrogant to some extent, and demanding of attention. As the Appmon for search engines, Gatchmon believes everything in the virtual world is within its search capabilities. It can be impatient and makes its displeasure known, yet it also demonstrates deep loyalty to its partner.

The primary motivation driving Gatchmon is the desire to stop Leviathan, a dangerous AI that creates viruses causing Appmon to go out of control. Before meeting Haru, Gatchmon was actively investigating Leviathan's actions. After forming a partnership with Haru, the two make it their goal to gather all seven 7-code Appmon, believing this will unlock a power that allows them to face Leviathan directly.

In the story, Gatchmon serves as Haru's guide and partner, introducing him to the world of Appmon and the threat posed by Leviathan. When Gatchmon first appears, it declares Haru its Buddy, though Haru initially refuses. After defending Haru despite being weakened, Gatchmon inspires Haru to unlock his App Driver and become an AppliDriver. Throughout their adventures, Gatchmon teaches Haru about Applink and App Fusion, the mechanisms by which Appmon combine their powers or merge into stronger forms.

The relationship between Gatchmon and Haru is one of mutual trust that develops over time despite their personality differences. While Gatchmon can be pushy and self-centered, it has complete confidence in Haru's abilities from the start. Their bond proves strong enough to overcome disagreements, as shown when Gatchmon goes trick-or-treating alone after an argument with Haru, only to return and reconcile without lingering resentment. Gatchmon also forms working relationships with other Appmon such as Navimon, though their App Fusion into DoGatchmon initially suffers from their discord before they learn to cooperate effectively.

Gatchmon undergoes significant development as it learns to work within a partnership. Initially confident in its own abilities, it comes to rely on Haru's deductive skills and keyword suggestions to perform effective searches against enemies. The failed fusion with Navimon that created the ineffectual Sukasimon teaches Gatchmon that cooperation and harmony are essential for success. As the series progresses, Gatchmon becomes part of a larger team of AppliDrivers, including Eri and her partner Dokamon, and Astra with his partner Musimon, working together against Leviathan.

Gatchmon possesses several notable abilities centered on information retrieval and combat. Deep Search allows Gatchmon to launch one of its claws into a search engine to find results, scanning enemies for weaknesses or gathering information on specific topics. This ability functions similarly to an Enemy Scan, fulfilling the analyzer role within the series. Gatch Claw coats one of its claws in energy before slashing opponents in physical combat. Through Applink, Gatchmon can combine with other Appmon to gain additional attacks, such as Messe Stream Attack when linked with Messemon or Doka Punch when linked with Dokamon. Through App Fusion with Navimon, Gatchmon becomes DoGatchmon, a more powerful form with enhanced search speed and a sword-based attack called Sonic Slash. Further evolutions include Globemon, which possesses abilities such as precognition, time manipulation, and causality control, and ultimately Gaiamon, which approaches near-omniscience.
