Description
Lylia is a main protagonist of the Pokémon Sun & Moon anime and a student at the Pokémon School on Melemele Island in the Alola region. She comes from a prominent family: her mother is Lusamine, president of the Aether Foundation, and her older brother is Gladion. When she was very young, Lylia was attacked by the Ultra Beast Nihilego, which attempted to take her into Ultra Space. Although Silvally rescued her, the incident left her with a severe trauma that made her unable to touch or approach any Pokémon without feeling intense fear. This phobia shaped her early personality: she was reserved, cautious, and often stood apart from her classmates when they interacted with their partners. Despite this, Lylia possessed a deep, academic knowledge about Pokémon and enjoyed reading about them from a safe distance.
Her motivation throughout the series is to overcome this fear and become a true Pokémon Trainer. When Professor Kukui entrusts the class with a Pokémon Egg, Lylia is given the responsibility of caring for it. Through this experience, she finds the courage to touch the Egg, and it later hatches into an Alolan Vulpix, whom she names Niveo. The Vulpix becomes her first partner and helps her take the first steps toward physical contact with Pokémon. Lylia’s journey is one of gradual growth: she learns to hold and care for Niveo, then later manages to touch Pikachu after a battle, and eventually mounts a Stoutland during a PokéRide challenge. Each small victory builds her confidence, and she becomes more willing to engage with the world of Pokémon training.
