Description
Nereida is a character from the anime Pokémon Sun & Moon, known in the English version as Lana. She is a student at the Pokémon School on Melemele Island in the Alola region and one of the main classmates of Ash Ketchum during his time there. She lives in Konikoni City on Akala Island with her parents and her two younger twin sisters, Loles and Silvia, whom she helps care for and plays with whenever possible.
Her personality is calm, composed, and serene, but she can become quite active and determined when the situation calls for it. She has a gentle and responsible nature, especially toward her family, and she enjoys spending time by the sea. She is an enthusiastic fisher and has a deep love for Water-type Pokémon, often demonstrating skill with a fishing rod and knowledge of marine life. She also has a playful side and is known to occasionally tell mild falsehoods as jokes, such as claiming to have seen a legendary Pokémon or caught a rare Pokémon, though these are meant in good fun.
Nereida’s primary motivation is to grow as a Pokémon trainer and to protect and care for those around her, especially her sisters and her Pokémon. In the anime, she takes part in the island challenge alongside her classmates, aiming to become stronger and to experience the traditions of Alola. She is also motivated by her bond with her friends and her desire to have fun and explore the region.
Her role in the story is that of a supporting character and friend to Ash and the other students. She participates in various adventures, battles, and school activities, often offering her calm perspective and her expertise in water-based situations. She is a key member of the group that explores Alola, faces challenges, and helps each other through personal growth.
Nereida has close relationships with her classmates, particularly Lulú, with whom she spends much of her free time, and with Ash, whom she respects as a friend and battler. She is also devoted to her younger sisters, acting as a reliable older sibling, and shares a warm bond with her parents. Her primary Pokémon partner is a Popplio that later evolves into Brionne and eventually into Primarina, and she also catches and befriends other Water-type Pokémon. Her bond with her Pokémon is built on trust and mutual care, and she trains them with patience and dedication.
Throughout the series, Nereida undergoes noticeable development. She begins as a somewhat quiet and reserved girl but gradually becomes more confident in her abilities as a trainer and more willing to take initiative. She learns to balance her responsibilities at home with her adventures, and she becomes more assertive in battles, demonstrating strategic thinking and a deep understanding of her Pokémon’s strengths. Her leadership qualities emerge as she helps guide her friends during group activities.
Notable abilities include her exceptional fishing skills, her knowledge of aquatic environments, and her proficiency in Water-type Pokémon battles. She is able to remain calm under pressure, which often allows her to think clearly in difficult situations. She also has a creative side, such as making her own fishing rods, and she shows adaptability when learning new techniques and strategies. Her close connection to the sea is a defining trait that influences many of her actions and decisions.
