Description
Andrew Gilbert Mills, known in virtual worlds as Agil, is a prominent supporting character in the Sword Art Online series. In the real world, he is a large, muscular African-American man who was born and raised in Tokyo, specifically in Ueno. He stands close to 180 centimeters tall, has a bald head, a brown goatee, and two silver earrings on his left ear. He is married to a woman named Kathy, and together they run a cafe bar called the Dicey Cafe in Okachimachi, Tokyo, which his wife maintained during his two years trapped in the death game. Agil is the oldest member of Kirito’s close circle of friends. His personality is defined by a blend of serious reliability and good-natured humor. Despite his imposing appearance, he is fundamentally friendly, helpful, and deeply community-oriented, always looking out for others. He often acts as a voice of reason and a pillar of support within the group. While he sometimes presents himself as a profit-driven merchant, this is largely a facade; he famously follows a “buy cheap, sell cheap” philosophy, using most of his in-game earnings to help mid-level players improve their strength and survive. His motivations are rooted in loyalty, collective responsibility, and a desire to support his friends and fellow survivors. Having experienced the death game firsthand, he is committed to the well-being of others, and after returning to the real world, he prioritizes repaying his wife for her loyalty and hard work. Agil serves as a steadfast ally to Kirito, who views him as a reliable older brother figure and confidant. His cafe becomes an essential gathering place for former SAO players and the central friend group. In Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale, Agil reinforces his role as a steadfast ally. He and Sinon win a pair of concert tickets, and when Klein pleads for one, Agil reluctantly provides a ticket he purchased at significant personal expense. When Klein goes missing, Agil investigates and informs the group that Klein is in the hospital. He joins the final battle against the core threats of the Ordinal Scale system, demonstrating unbreakable trust and combat coordination forged in the death game, culminating in his use of the iconic Switch technique with Kirito. Agil is a first-class fighter and veteran axe-wielder, proficient with a two-handed battleaxe. He consistently participated in high-level boss raids, including the decisive battle on the 75th floor of Aincrad, and by the end of the SAO incident his level was 83. He also possesses excellent bartering, appraisal, and negotiation skills as a merchant. His development across the series is subtle but meaningful: he transitions from a front-line warrior and merchant to a key supporter who uses his real-world resources to aid his friends, while never losing his combat edge.
