Description
Kenjirou Shirabu is a second-year student at Shiratorizawa Academy and serves as the team's starting setter, wearing jersey number 10. He has sandy-colored hair that is parted unevenly into two distinct sides and brown eyes. Standing at 174.8 centimeters and weighing 64.4 kilograms, he has an average build but is noticeably shorter than most of his powerful teammates, a fact he considers a personal concern as he wishes to be taller.

Shirabu's journey to becoming Shiratorizawa's setter is unique within the team. Unlike the majority of his fellow regulars who entered the prestigious school on sports scholarships, Shirabu passed the rigorous general entrance examination through academic merit. This path was a conscious choice made after a pivotal experience in his second year of middle school. While watching a match between Shiratorizawa and Kitagawa Daiichi, he initially found himself relating to the strategic and elegant setting of Oikawa Tooru. However, he was ultimately captivated by the raw power and imposing height of the ace, Ushijima Wakatoshi. From that moment, he vowed to attend Shiratorizawa and become the setter who would bring out the best in Ushijima, dedicating himself to his studies to achieve this goal.

In line with his objective, Shirabu cultivated a playing style defined by self-effacement and precision. He aims to be the most unnoticeable setter, focusing on delivering simple, high, and reliable tosses that allow his ace to exploit his full power. This philosophy is what earned him the starting position over his upperclassman, Semi Eita, as it perfectly aligns with Coach Washijo's straightforward, power-based volleyball. Despite his calm and composed demeanor on the court, Shirabu possesses a hot-headed and irritable personality. He becomes visibly annoyed by opponents who successfully employ counter-strategies, such as Tsukishima Kei's persistent blocking, which he finds deeply frustrating. Nevertheless, he is quick to recognize his own mistakes and has the mental fortitude to recompose himself under pressure, as shown when he recovered from a critical error that cost his team a set.

Shirabu holds immense respect for Ushijima, who is the cornerstone of his volleyball philosophy. He is also respectful to his other upperclassmen but maintains a more distant and competitive relationship with Semi. With underclassmen, particularly the eager and attention-seeking wing spiker Goshiki Tsutomu, Shirabu is strict and often bickers with him, deflating the first-year's grandiose statements with blunt critiques about his actual skill level. He shares a noticeably more relaxed and friendly rapport with his second-year classmate, the middle blocker Kawanishi Taichi, who is one of the few people he interacts with on equal and amicable terms.

Throughout the intense match against Karasuno, Shirabu's role and development are put to the test. He begins by orchestrating the offense around Ushijima as usual, but as the game progresses and Karasuno's defense, led by Tsukishima, becomes increasingly effective, he experiences significant stress. This pressure leads to an uncharacteristic low set that results in Ushijima's spike being blocked for the first time. This moment of failure becomes a catalyst for his growth, as he is forced to confront his own rigidity. In a crucial play, he surprises everyone, including the persistent Tsukishima, by performing a setter dump, proving that his duty is not solely to rely on the ace. Later, when Ushijima shows signs of fatigue, Shirabu demonstrates his cool-headed rationality by questioning the ace directly about the promise to always set to him, showing that his dedication is not blind loyalty but a pragmatic commitment to winning.

Shirabu's notable abilities lie in his game intelligence and his exceptionally steady hands. He is a cerebral player who thinks deeply about the flow of the match, earning high marks in parameters for intellect, technique, and stamina. He is known for his ability to reset the team's rhythm even when it is disrupted. After his time at Shiratorizawa, Shirabu continues to apply his studious and hardworking nature to his future, as he is shown to have entered medical school, pursuing a demanding career far from the volleyball court.
