TV-Series
Description
Chikara Enoshita is a second-year student at Karasuno High School and a wing spiker for the boys' volleyball team, wearing jersey number 6. He is of average height with slightly down-turned eyes and medium-length dark brown hair, which often gives him a sleepy or relaxed appearance. This look is so persistent that even when he is truly fired up, people tell him he looks tired. Despite being on the court, he is known for not drawing much attention to himself, to the point where opposing teams sometimes overlook him entirely.
Enoshita is generally quiet, reserved, and often has a gentle, calming smile. However, he is far from passive and can act with surprising boldness when the situation calls for it. He is notably the only second-year player capable of controlling his more boisterous and impulsive classmates, Ryunosuke Tanaka and Yu Nishinoya. He is described as a stabilizing presence for the underclassmen and has a sharp ability to understand and relate to different people. He is intelligent and has never received a failing grade, often using his academic diligence to help his teammates, particularly when exams threaten their ability to participate in training camps.
Enoshita's most defining characteristic is his lack of confidence, which stems directly from his past. As a first-year, he joined the team when the original strict coach, Ikkei Ukai, briefly returned. Unable to keep up with the grueling and demanding practices, Enoshita, along with his classmates Hisashi Kinoshita and Kazuhito Narita, began skipping practice and effectively left the club. The three returned after realizing how much they missed playing volleyball, but by that time, Coach Ukai had been hospitalized again. Because of this period of weakness, the three of them refer to themselves as the Ungrateful Second Years. This memory of running away weighs heavily on Enoshita and fuels his self-doubt, making him question whether he is worthy of being a leader, even as others recognize his potential.
His role in the story is primarily as a reliable substitute and the clear successor to the team captain, Daichi Sawamura. While Daichi, Asahi Azumane, and Nishinoya were absent from the team, Enoshita filled in as a starter. After their return, he became a bench player, but he remains one of the team's most astute observers. He is often seen offering crucial advice; for example, helping Tobio Kageyama understand that different spikers require different types of sets to perform their best. His most significant moment comes during a match against Wakutani Minami High School. When Daichi suffers an injury and must leave the court, Enoshita is sent in to replace him. Initially overwhelmed by the pressure of leading the team on the court, he struggles to perform. However, he draws on his past regret and resolves to not run away again, shouting to the opposing team and making a critical, game-saving receive. His steady leadership and strategic thinking help Karasuno secure a narrow victory.
Enoshita has several key relationships that define his place on the team. His bond with Daichi Sawamura is one of deep respect and mentorship. Enoshita constantly compares himself to the captain, feeling he cannot fill Daichi's shoes, but Daichi and the other third-years repeatedly express their trust in him, with Daichi ultimately appointing him as the next captain. He is close friends with Kinoshita and Narita, the other two Ungrateful Second Years, and they provide mutual support. With Tanaka and Nishinoya, he maintains a firm but caring dynamic; he is often the one sent to scold them, yet he willingly teaches them and looks out for their well-being. He also asserts quiet authority over the difficult first-years, Kei Tsukishima and Kageyama, who respect him enough to listen.
As a player, Ennoshita is fundamentally solid in his abilities without being exceptional. His official statistics rate his power, stamina, game sense, and technique as average, while his speed and jumping are below average. He is primarily a defensive player, with receives that are noted to be the best on the team after Daichi's. He is level-headed and his observational skills allow him to analyze opponents' strategies effectively. His serves and spikes are consistent and can be aimed, but they lack the power to be decisive weapons. After the third-years graduate, he is expected to become the new team captain, a role for which his steady personality and ability to unify the team make him ideally suited. Following his time at Karasuno High School, Enoshita pursues a career as a physical therapist.
