TV-Series
Description
Daisuke Fujii is the former manager and head trainer of the small Japanese professional wrestling organization, Zipang. He is also the father of Takuma Fujii, one of the two protagonists who seeks revenge for his father's downfall. Daisuke is portrayed as a dedicated and respected mentor who ran his wrestling promotion with a focus on honor and skill.
The defining event of Daisuke's life occurs before the main story begins when the Global Wrestling Monopoly (GWM), a powerful and villainous organization, challenges Zipang to a tournament. In the final match, Daisuke faces Yellow Devil, GWM's top and most brutal fighter. Although the match is official, Yellow Devil uses illegal moves to secure a victory and, even after being declared the winner, continues his assault on Daisuke. The attack is so vicious that it leaves Daisuke permanently crippled, ending his career as a wrestler and forcing him into a wheelchair for the rest of his life. This traumatic event leads to the dissolution of the Zipang organization and becomes the primary motivation for both his son, Takuma, and Takuma's best friend, Naoto Azuma, to seek revenge against Yellow Devil and the Tiger's Den.
Despite being confined to a hospital and later a sanatorium for rehabilitation, Daisuke remains a significant, if largely off-screen, presence in the narrative. He is the emotional anchor for his son, whose desire for vengeance is entirely focused on avenging his father. Throughout the series, Takuma visits his father, though he initially struggles to confront him directly, instead leaving gifts without showing himself. Daisuke's condition is a constant reminder of the stakes and the cruelty of the antagonists. In a notable moment, he is shown to have enough strength of will to attend a match involving Tiger Mask, the heroic identity of Naoto, demonstrating that his spirit for wrestling is not entirely broken.
Daisuke's role is less about physical action and more about the legacy he leaves behind. His courageous fighting spirit and his dedication to the sport are what originally inspired Naoto to become a wrestler, having seen Daisuke persevere through many losses to eventually triumph. This memory gives Naoto the strength to continue his own battles. Later in the story, Daisuke plays a direct role in the healing of his son. He asks Ruriko, a nurse who worked for GWM but had grown disillusioned, to become Takuma's personal physiotherapist, setting the stage for his son's physical and emotional recovery. He is also shown to be a forgiving man, reconciling with Naoto after a difficult period in the young hero's journey. Daisuke Fujii ultimately represents the honorable past of professional wrestling that the younger generation is fighting to protect and restore.
