Description
Haruna Takaoka is a central character in the Tiger Mask W anime, serving as the manager, confidante, and eventual fellow wrestler to the protagonist, Naoto Azuma, the new Tiger Mask. She is the niece of Kentaro Takaoka, the owner of Takaoka Motors, who is revealed to be the only person who knew the identity of the original Tiger Mask. Haruna is one of the few individuals aware that Naoto is the new Tiger Mask, a secret she helps him protect throughout the series.

Physically, Haruna is depicted as a young adult woman with brown eyes and black hair that falls to her shoulders. At the start of the story, she is around 18 years old. Her personality is defined by a strong sense of responsibility, ambition, and unwavering loyalty. While she harbors romantic feelings for Naoto, she consistently hides these emotions to focus on her self-appointed duty as his professional manager. She is resourceful and business-savvy, demonstrated by her success in creating and managing a line of Tiger Mask merchandise, which helps finance Naoto's career. Beyond her managerial role, she possesses a hidden well of determination and physical toughness, which becomes a major focus as her own story develops.

Haruna's primary motivation is to support Naoto in his quest for revenge against the underworld wrestling organization that destroyed their training dojo. Her role in the narrative initially positions her squarely in Naoto's corner, handling his logistics, finances, and emotional support from outside the ring. However, this role evolves dramatically. When a female wrestler named Milk from the tag team Candy Pair falls ill before a Global Wrestling Monopoly (GWM) match, Haruna volunteers to take her place as Mint's partner. Under the masked alias Spring Tiger, later shortened to Springer on the recommendation of Miss X, she steps into the ring and reveals a highly toned and physically fit body, shocking even the seasoned wrestler Mint.

Her key relationships are central to the story. Her bond with Naoto is the most significant; she is his most trusted ally, and her hidden feelings for him add a layer of emotional depth to their partnership. Her uncle, Kentaro Takaoka, provides a connection to the legacy of the original Tiger Mask. She also draws the persistent, one-sided romantic attention of Ryu Wakamatsu, an admirer who works at GWM. Her relationship with the joshi wrestler Mint is crucial to her in-ring debut, and she later becomes a key figure in the women's wrestling scene, specifically within Miss X's new organization, GirMov, where she serves as its ace fighter.

Haruna undergoes significant development throughout the series. A flashback reveals that she was once a shy 15-year-old who dreamed of working at her uncle's motor shop, and it was a chance encounter with a then-timid Naoto that began their long-standing connection. Her transformation from a shy girl to a determined manager and then to a fierce competitor, Spring Tiger, marks her most notable arc. Her first match is a victory against Queen and X Woman (Miss X's wrestling persona), a testament to her natural aptitude and rigorous off-screen training. Despite winning, she ends the match covered in bruises, but she learns to wear them as a badge of honor, demonstrating her growing mental fortitude. Her abilities extend beyond the ring; she is a skilled administrator and marketer. As a wrestler, her technique is surprisingly polished, with early success suggesting a high level of technical skill, possibly surpassing Naoto's in certain aspects. Her costume as Spring Tiger is modeled after real-life professional wrestler Natsumi Maki, continuing the series tradition of connecting its fiction to the broader wrestling world.
