Description
Kaoru Asagi is a student at the same high school as the main characters and is a member of the school's theater club. She possesses a striking androgynous appearance, characterized by notably masculine and handsome features. This unique look has earned her a significant following of female admirers, though it has also made her a target of jealousy and resentment from their male counterparts, who sometimes seek to confront her. Her character design, which contributes to this visual ambiguity, was created by the artist group CLAMP. This has led to initial confusion among viewers regarding her gender, despite the fact that she is female.

In terms of personality, Asagi is portrayed as a composed and respected upperclassman. She demonstrates a practical mindset regarding performance, initially showing interest in kabuki only after having her perspective changed. Her involvement in the kabuki club is spurred by an act of chivalry; when male students attempt to harass Asagi over her popularity, Tonbo Murase steps in to protect her. This gesture earns her respect for both Murase and Kurogo Kurusu, the founder of the kabuki club. Following this incident, she becomes open to the idea of joining their cause, despite kabuki traditionally being performed by men. Her role in the story is as one of the core members recruited to help form the new kabuki club, providing experience and a serious demeanor from her background in theatrical arts.

Asagi's key relationships primarily involve the club's founders. She is a reliable senior figure to Kurogo Kurusu and shares a bond of respect with Tonbo Murase, whose decisive action earned her admiration. Her development centers on transitioning from the general theater club to the specialized world of kabuki, embracing its challenges as an amateur troupe. Her most notable ability lies in her stage presence and appearance; her handsome looks and masculine bearing make her exceptionally suited for male roles, reminiscent of performers in the all-female Takarazuka Revue. She possesses the charisma and visual appeal that naturally draw an audience, talents that become a significant asset to the kabuki club's productions.
