Description
Marsha, whose full name is Masha Kokovtsov, is a character from the multimedia project Hagane Orchestra, which originated as a mobile strategy game and later received a short anime adaptation. She is a young woman with mint-green hair and blue eyes, standing 156.5 centimeters tall and weighing 46.7 kilograms. Although her chronological age is around twenty years, her physical development and aging have halted at the age of fourteen due to prolonged exposure to a nanomachine-infused preservation device from a bygone era. This device was intended to keep soldiers in peak condition, but it also arrested her growth after she was placed inside as a child.

Marsha’s background is marked by tragedy and injustice. She was born into a well-regarded family in a walled settlement known as the Fortress Town. Her parents were respected members of the community, but their refusal to arrange a marriage between Marsha and the son of the town’s council chairman led to a fabricated charge of insurrection. The family was sentenced to exile into the dangerous Shadow Sea, a sea of sand and ruins where survival is nearly impossible. During the forced journey, her parents discovered a sealed mechanical container floating in the Shadow Sea and placed Marsha inside it with a small supply of food and water, hoping to give her a chance at survival. They themselves perished. Marsha drifted in the container for an unknown period before being recovered by the crew of the bandit group Selastes, led by the captain Dra. She was taken in and has lived with them for about six years.

In terms of personality, Marsha presents a composed, courteous demeanor that reflects her upbringing in a noble household. She speaks with a slightly old-fashioned or refined tone, which contrasts with her role as a member of a bandit organization. However, beneath this surface lies a deep-seated anger and grief over the betrayal and destruction of her family. Her primary motivation is to seek revenge against the citizens and leadership of the Fortress Town, whom she holds responsible for her parents’ death and her own stolen childhood. This desire for vengeance is strong enough that she is willing to take dangerous missions and use any means necessary to achieve it. At the same time, Marsha has developed a strong sense of loyalty toward the Selastes crew, who treated her as a guest and later as family. She is particularly devoted to Dra, who she sees as a surrogate father figure. Marsha also has a tendency to become infatuated with the commander or protagonist she encounters, a trait often played for lighter moments.

Within the story, Marsha serves as both a scout and a gunner for Selastes, and she eventually becomes one of the Four Heavenly Kings, the elite members of the group. Her primary combat role is as a sniper while piloting a Hagane, the series’ customizable mecha vehicles. She underwent three years of intensive training and another three years of practical experience to become the most accurate marksman in the fleet. Her skills are widely respected, and she is trusted with critical missions. In contrast, her small, unchanging physique makes her ineffective in hand-to-hand combat, so she is always accompanied by a squad of four bodyguards—Hanzou, Kotarou, Kashin, and Danzou—who protect her when she is not in a vehicle.

Marsha’s development over the course of the narrative moves from a traumatized victim to a capable and confident operative. She initially viewed her position in Selastes as a fragile one, recognizing that her value to the group might lead to abandonment if she became a liability. To secure her place and pursue her revenge, she actively sought to become useful, requesting combat training. Through determination she earned the trust and respect of her comrades, becoming an integral member of the team. Her relationship with Dra in particular deepens from a pragmatic arrangement to a genuine father-daughter bond.

Notable abilities include expert marksmanship with the weapons mounted on her Hagane, particularly long-range rifle tactics. She is also resourceful and has knowledge of the Shadow Sea and the ruins within it. She carries a large coin-purse around her neck that contains a cracked scope lens from the first gun Dra gave her, as well as sewing supplies for field repairs—a sentimental and practical item reflecting her history and her attachment to her new family.
