Description
Heybot is the central robotic character of his series, a VocabBot who was born from the screw spirit of his partner, Prince Nejiru Nejiiru. His origin occurs when Nejiru, on his eleventh birthday, chases after a flying royal screw and inserts it into a mysterious egg, from which Heybot is born. His name, given to him by Nejiru, derives from a pun meaning a clumsy or unimpressive VocabBot, though Heybot himself is fond of the name and believes it sounds cool.
Physically, Heybot is a small, yellow robot with a single, unique blue screw on his head known as the Hebohebo Screw. He speaks with a distinctive verbal tic, often ending his sentences with the word "hebo" and referring to himself with the casual and boastful pronouns ore-sama, which means "my great self". His personality is a blend of boastful confidence, laziness, and a strong competitive streak. He has an overwhelming love for sweet potato chips, called imo-chin, which serve as his primary motivation for most of his actions. Heybot is responsible for household chores like cooking, though he frequently serves meals consisting entirely of sweet potato chip dishes.
Despite his tendency to cut corners and his self-centered nature, Heybot often acts as the voice of reason compared to the eccentric and screw-obsessed Nejiru. In many situations, he is the one who delivers deadpan retorts and points out the absurdity of the events around him. However, his morality can be flexible, and he is willing to resort to any means necessary if it involves helping Nejiru or acquiring his favorite food. One of his more unusual traits is an admiration for human biology, as he expresses envy of human bodily functions such as excretion or having cavities, viewing them as signs of maturity. On one occasion when a switch on his body became swollen, he wet himself for the first time and proudly proclaimed it a step toward adulthood.
Heybot possesses a signature ability known as the Butt Bone, which is a form of flatulence that can produce unexpected miracles. The effects of this ability are completely random and unpredictable, but the one consistent aspect is that it produces an overwhelmingly powerful and foul odor. This skill is often a wild card in the many Vocab Battles, contests where competitors attach special screws to their heads and compete to deliver the best jokes. Heybot frequently engages in these battles alongside Nejiru, which serves as a primary activity in their quest to collect various screws. Furthermore, Heybot has a tendency to slip into powerful fantasies in which he transforms into a female human, usually a high school girl. In this form, his voice becomes feminine and his personality completely changes, though the same voice actor provides both performances.
His primary relationship is with his partner and master, the prince Nejiru. The two live together and are bound by the screw spirit, making them a permanent team. Their dynamic is central to the story, as they travel across the screw-shaped island nation of Nejigashima. Later in the series, Heybot is joined by Peckett, a dark-hearted robot who claims to be his younger brother and is identifiable by his unique red screw. Peckett addresses Heybot as "Hebo-niisan," and their brotherly dynamic becomes a key relationship.
