Description
Hinae Arimura is a second-year high school student who serves as the president of her school's literature club. She is known for her distinctive appearance, which includes blonde hair styled into twin pigtails secured with ribbons, violet-blue eyes, and notably, small anime-style fangs that are visible when she speaks. Her typical outfits alternate between her sailor-style school uniform and a more casual look consisting of a sleeveless midnight-blue jacket over an orange-accented shirt.

Born in 1999, Hinae's life was dramatically altered by the catastrophic Shibuya Earthquake. While searching for a birthday gift for her older brother, she was injured in the disaster. The true tragedy struck when she later discovered her brother's body beneath the rubble, but the emotional impact was compounded by his final revelation that they were not biologically related. This traumatic discovery acted as the catalyst for her awakening as a gigalomaniac, granting her a unique and fitting ability: the power to detect lies and distinguish truth from falsehood in what people say. This power, born from a desperate desire to never be deceived again, is not without its flaws, as it can be vulnerable to linguistic loopholes or careful wording.

On the surface, Hinae projects a personality that is cheerful, trendy, and energetic. She often engages in playful teasing with her peers, particularly with Takuru Miyashiro, whose embarrassing secrets she enjoys exposing using her lie-detection ability. However, this bubbly exterior is a deliberate facade that masks a much more perceptive and serious inner self. She is acutely aware of the hidden feelings and artificial pretenses in social situations, and she privately becomes fed up with the boring, fake conversations that often occur among her friends. When alone or when confronting serious matters, she drops her cheerful act and adopts a solemn, introspective demeanor.

Her role in the story becomes deeply intertwined with a series of murder investigations that connect to her past. She is initially found as a key person of interest at the scene of one of the Return of the New Generation incidents, known as the Revolving Dead, where she was discovered unconscious. As the narrative progresses, she becomes closely allied with the newspaper club members, including Takuru, Serika Onoe, and Hana Kazuki, as they investigate the strange occurrences around them. She is one of the first characters to reveal her gigalomaniac abilities and is targeted by a pyrokinetic attacker, forcing her to rely on others for survival and deepening her involvement in the central conflict.

Hinae's personal story arc, sometimes referred to as the Dark Sky route, reveals deep family dysfunction. It is uncovered that her mother, driven mad after being abandoned by her affair partner, becomes a serial killer. The investigation culminates in a direct confrontation with her mother. Throughout this ordeal, Hinae struggles with immense guilt and self-blame, particularly related to the death of her brother. Her relationship with Takuru Miyashiro becomes a core focus, developing from playful banter into a deep emotional bond as they share their status as gigalomaniacs. Her ability to trust him is central to her development, and the story's conclusion hinges on whether her delusions, which can be influenced by the player's choices, allow her to maintain a tangible connection to him or retreat into an imagined solace.

In terms of notable abilities, as a gigalomaniac, Hinae possesses the power to perceive lies. This allows her to intuitively know when a statement she hears is untrue. Furthermore, like other gigalomaniacs, she can manifest her DI-Sword, a physical representation of her power. Her sword has a shimmery appearance in light blue, pink, and white, with a hilt shaped like butterfly wings adorned with ribbon-like flourishes and translucent, gem-like segments. Glowing particles often accompany its appearance, underscoring its lethal elegance. Despite being one of the first characters to draw her sword, she is notably never depicted in a direct battle scenario wielding it. Her trauma and her power remain central to her identity, shaping her interactions and her painful path through the story.
