Description
Ao Hojo is an exorcist affiliated with the Kyoto Branch of the True Cross Order. She is the daughter of Uwabami Hojo and the younger sister of Mamushi Hojo and Nishiki Hojo. Her physical appearance is very similar to that of her sisters; she has light-colored long hair styled with a hime cut that features an extra-long bang in the center of her forehead. Her eyes are noted for their sharp, snake-like stare, and she is typically seen wearing traditional Japanese clothing.
In terms of personality, Ao is depicted as being haughty and derisive, especially in her interactions with members of the Shima family. Despite this dismissive attitude towards outsiders, she and her sister Nishiki show a great deal of deference and loyalty to their elder sister, Mamushi.
Within the narrative of the Kyoto Saga, Ao first appears alongside her sisters in the midst of a heated argument with Juzo Shima and Kinzo Shima. The dispute concerns which party is at fault for a security breach at the shinbu. The confrontation escalates until other branch members, including Ryuji Suguro, step in to stop the fight. Later, it is revealed that Ao and Nishiki were on guard duty when Tatsuma Suguro arrived at the location where the Right Eye of the Impure King was sealed. They were ushered out of the area just before the seal was disturbed. Ao and her sisters stand by Mamushi when she gives her account of the events surrounding the incident.
Her key relationships are centered on her family. As a member of the Hojo clan, she works alongside her sisters at the Kyoto Branch. Her relationship with the Shima family, particularly Juzo and Kinzo, is marked by open antagonism and mutual blame. In later story events, Ao appears as part of a reinforcement team from the Kyoto Branch Office during the operation to take control of the Illuminati's Far East Laboratory, where she is again seen alongside Kinzo Shima. Her history includes being among the Myōō Dharani members evacuated during the Blue Night; at that time, she was only an infant and was carried by her sister Mamushi.
Ao Hojo holds the Meister of Tamer. Like other members of the Hojo clan, she most likely has the ability to summon a Naga, a type of serpentine demon.
