Shoji Fujimoto is a widowed single father raising his young daughter Kana alone after his wife passed away two years prior. He has not pursued a relationship since his wife's death and works toward becoming a picture book author. The children's program "The Sing Along! Show," featuring singer Minami Takasaki and mascot Paotan, became a source of healing for him and Kana during their grief.

Shoji encounters Minami outside her work and learns she feels trapped by her industry contract, which forbids relationships to maintain her pure public image. Despite these professional constraints, romantic feelings develop in Shoji. This leads to a secret relationship where he must navigate the complexities of dating a public figure while concealing it from his daughter and others.

Balancing his parenting responsibilities with this relationship proves challenging. Shoji finds it difficult to hide the adult nature of his romance from the innocent and easily startled Kana. His dedication to Kana's well-being remains central as he strives to protect her emotional stability while pursuing his own happiness.
