TV-Series
Description
Jun Shiomi is a character affiliated with Tōtsuki Culinary Academy, first appearing during the arc of the Autumn Election. She holds the position of a lecturer and is the youngest professor at the academy, where she runs her own specialized research facility known as the Shiomi Seminar. Despite being in her thirties, she has a notably youthful appearance, standing at only 151 cm tall with a petite build and a young face that often leads strangers to mistake her for a junior high school student. She typically ties her long hair into a high ponytail and wears square-shaped glasses, often dressing casually in a spice-themed T-shirt and track shorts, though she dons a lab coat when entering a more focused, academic mindset.

Her personality is a mixture of intense intellectual curiosity and social awkwardness. She is a self-described bookworm who possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of spices, their chemical properties, and culinary applications, a dedication that has earned her the nickname The Authority of Spices. However, she is also portrayed as scatterbrained and somewhat helpless in daily life, frequently forgetting to eat or neglecting to care for the spice plants in her seminar. These tasks are often taken over by her assistant, Akira Hayama, who acts as the more practical and responsible figure in their partnership. She has low self-esteem and a tendency to be overly polite, leading to comedic cycles of endless apologies when interacting with similarly timid characters like Megumi Tadokoro.

Jun Shiomi is an alumna of the Polar Star Dormitory, belonging to the 74th generation and being one of the youngest members of its so-called Golden Era alongside Gin Dōjima and Jōichirō Saiba. She passed the dormitory's notoriously difficult entrance exam on her first try during her middle school years. She was also a former member of the Elite Ten Council, the academy's top governing body of students, having held the fifth seat.

Her time as a student with Jōichirō Saiba is the source of a long-standing, comedic grudge. As a junior student, she frequently served as a test subject for his experimental and often disastrous dishes, leaving her with emotional scars that she has not forgotten. This resentment initially transfers to his son, Sōma Yukihira, whom she punches upon learning of his parentage and at first refuses to assist with his studies. Despite this, she is shown to hold a deep-seated respect for her former senior, referring to him with an honorific and joining the search for him when he goes missing, indicating her animosity is not born of genuine hatred.

Her most significant relationship is with Akira Hayama. She met him during a spice research trip overseas when he was a child, as he saved her from being cheated by a local vendor by using his exceptional sense of smell to identify low-quality spices. Impressed by his talent, she recruited him as her assistant and later became his legal guardian and adoptive parent. Their dynamic is built on a complementary partnership where her theoretical expertise provides the foundation for his practical, sensory-driven mastery of spices.

Within the story, Jun serves a crucial role as a mentor, particularly during the Autumn Election preliminaries when the theme is announced as curry dishes. At Akira's urging, she agrees to lecture Sōma and Megumi, despite her initial hostility toward the former. She provides them with deep, academic insights into the science of spices, though her lectures tend to go on lengthy tangents. She is also present during the main tournament as a spectator, watching her ward Akira achieve first place in his block. She also plays a minor role later, informing students about the rules of the Stagiaire event and later participating in the Moon Banquet Festival.

Jun has notable culinary abilities, though her cooking skills are not extensively demonstrated in the series. Her expertise lies almost entirely in the academic and scientific study of spices and aromatics. She jokingly attributes her youthful appearance to the health benefits of the spices she consumes. While she holds a prestigious position as a lecturer and a respected alumna, her lack of practical, real-world focus means she relies heavily on her students and assistants to apply her knowledge effectively.
