Description
Kaede Yuzuriha, known almost exclusively by his nickname Yuzu, is a central figure in his story, recognized both for his extraordinary musical talent and his complex, often difficult personality. First encountered as a young boy during a solitary trip to the beach, Yuzu was a fifth-grade music prodigy who composed songs, sketching notes with a stick in the sand. It was there he met Nino Arisugawa, a girl who had lost her first love and resorted to screaming out her grief. Captivated by the raw power of her voice, which he found both beautiful and overwhelming, Yuzu named her Alice after her surname and formed a brief but intense musical friendship with her. He encouraged her to channel her screaming into singing, reigniting a passion inside her before he, too, disappeared from her life without explanation.

By high school, Yuzu has resurfaced as a second-year student with a noticeable habit of constantly drinking milk. He is the composer and a key creative force behind the popular but anonymous alternative rock band "in NO hurry to shout," whose members hide their identities behind masks and bandages during performances. In this band, he serves as both the composer and a vocalist who lip-syncs to pre-recorded tracks, a method that allows him to maintain the band's mysterious image. His personality is prickly, complicated, and far from easygoing. He has a reputation for not being the nicest person to have as a bandmate, driven by an intense, almost fanatical dedication to his music. This intensity is rooted in a deep-seated writer's block that plagued him until Nino's voice broke through the silence, providing an endless source of inspiration for his compositions.

Yuzu's primary motivation is intrinsically linked to Nino, whom he loves and sees as his muse, Alice. He harbors a long-standing, powerful love for her and is fiercely possessive, driven by a secret and consuming jealousy of Momo, the childhood friend who occupies Nino's heart. This unrequited love creates the central conflict for his character. He was initially reluctant to reconnect with Nino upon meeting her again in high school, not because he had forgotten her, but because his feelings for her made the situation too emotionally fraught. His actions are often a push-and-pull between his desire to create transcendent music with Nino and his personal wish to be the sole object of her affection, hoping that she will never find Momo again.

Throughout the narrative, Yuzu experiences significant development, much of it tied to confronting his past. A journey to Europe with his mother forces him to reckon with his personal history, providing context for his stage persona and his complicated emotional walls. A major turning point occurs when he finally opens up to his bandmates about his true feelings and his life, choosing to act on his realizations rather than suppressing them as he had done for so long. Ultimately, Yuzu evolves from a character driven by jealousy and secrecy to one who finds a degree of peace. He eventually accepts that while Nino's heart may belong to another, her voice will always be his. This realization allows him to move forward, pursuing his future by attending a prestigious conservatory abroad to follow in his father's footsteps as a composer.

In terms of notable abilities, Yuzu is a prodigious musical composer, capable of writing complex and moving pieces from a very young age. His musical intuition is so sharp that Nino’s voice alone is enough to shatter his writer's block and unleash a torrent of new songs. He is also a skilled performer and a driving creative force behind his band's success, constantly pushing for new heights in their music.
