Description
Ayako Sakashiro is a former professional Keijo player who serves as the head coach and headmaster of the Suruga Keijo Training School. Her career in the sport concluded in 2004, after which she followed the path of her rival, Nagisa Ujibe, transitioning into education by becoming a teacher at Suruga. Her first appearance in the original work occurs during the East-West Battle arc.

In her role as an administrator and coach, Ayako presents a persona that is ambitious, arrogant, and haughty. She frequently expresses a condescending attitude toward the Setouchi Keijo Training School, openly mocking its teachers and educational policies. Her confidence is rooted in her own educational philosophy and theories, which she believes are far superior. She argues that Setouchis outdated methods lower the overall quality of the Keijo world and that its elimination through a merger with Suruga is necessary to cultivate higher quality athletes. Consequently, she dismisses the annual East-West Battle between the two schools as a farce.

Despite her outward coldness and arrogant demeanor, Ayakos motivations are more complex. Her push for a merger is not merely about power but stems from a genuine concern for the future of the sport. She fears that without a generational change, the Keijo world will continue to decline, as no new athletes can compete against the top-tier players. Furthermore, her personality has a warmer side, revealed in flashbacks to her youth when she was a generous and humble person who donated goods to an orphanage simply because she wanted to see children smile.

Ayakos most significant personal relationship is with Maya Sakashiro, whom she adopted. Their connection began when Ayako visited an orphanage and donated a bed, which a young girl named Maya promptly broke with a powerful strike from her buttocks. While the staff apologized, Ayako was impressed rather than angered. She asked Maya to repeat the feat and, recognizing her exceptional natural talent, decided to adopt her on the spot. This decision was not solely based on Mayas athletic potential; Ayako also valued Maya deeply as a person. Later, she bought Maya a ribbon, which became a permanent part of the latters appearance.

Throughout the story, Ayako functions as a key authority figure and strategic mind. She is a former rival of Nagisa Ujibe, and this history adds depth to her competitive drive against Setouchi. Her development is subtle, primarily shown through the contrast between her harsh public image and her genuine, if stern, dedication to her students and her adopted daughter. While specific combat abilities are not the focus of her role as a coach, her past as a well-known Keijo player implies a high level of skill and experience. Her primary contribution is as a mentor and strategist, using her deep understanding of the sport to guide the next generation.
