TV-Series
Description
Dias Bardolomew is a human character from the second season, serving as a knight of the Orleans Knights. He begins the series as the adjutant to Captain Kaisar Lidfard, and by the conclusion of the story, he is promoted to the position of captain himself. He is a tall man with dark skin, black hair, and brown eyes, and he is typically seen wearing the standard uniform of his order paired with a red shirt.
Dias is defined by a serious and observant demeanor, which provides a strong contrast to the more hot-headed and expressive personalities of his comrades. His actions are consistently guided by a deep sense of care and a strong moral compass. He is particularly devoted to the welfare of his subordinate, Alessand Visponti, constantly worrying about him even when Alessand commits terrible acts. Despite being a knight sworn to follow the king's laws, Dias is not above defying rules when he believes it is necessary for the greater peace, even if it means risking his own future and directly opposing the King. While he initially never voiced displeasure at the widespread mistreatment of demons, he eventually shows concern for the subjugated species, notably when he and Kaisar choose to defend demon children from their own fellow knights.
Throughout the story of Virgin Soul, Dias acts as a loyal supporter to Captain Kaisar, participating in missions to capture the Ragged Demon and observing the political tensions between the human king, Charioce XVII, and the other races. His primary motivation becomes increasingly tied to his conflicted relationship with Alessand. When Alessand murders the Holy Child, an act that threatens to ignite a devastating war, Dias is furious. He teams up with Kaisar in a desperate attempt to prevent the conflict, first by trying to dissuade Jeanne d'Arc from seeking vengeance against the King, and then by confronting Alessand directly. When he corners the terrified Alessand, his affection for his subordinate causes him to hesitate, and he nearly falls for a treacherous dagger attack. Disappointed but resolved, he raises his sword again, only to witness Alessand being fatally stabbed by a demon child. Despite his fury and disappointment, Dias is heartbroken by the death, weeping as he calls Alessand a fool. He then carries Alessand's body on his back through the chaos of the final battle.
Dias holds his former captain, Kaisar, in high regard, sharing his pacifistic values and loyalty to the stability of the kingdom rather than to the king's tyranny. He also shows continued respect for Jeanne d'Arc, having served under her in the past, and he is visibly distraught when she is banished. However, he does not support her desire for war against Charioce XVII, believing her anger should be directed solely at Alessand for murdering her child. As a knight, Dias is a man of great talent and skill. His combat abilities are never questioned, and younger knights are known to fear the prospect of crossing swords with him. He also demonstrates quick reflexes, as shown when he is able to catch a hidden dagger with his bare hand, stopping Alessand's surprise attack.
