Description
Kirara Hanazono is a character who appears in the second season of the Aikatsu Stars! anime. She is a student at the prestigious Venus Ark academy, a ship-based training school for elite idols. Kirara is identified as a pop-type idol, and her preferred fashion brand is the soft and cute FuwaFuwa Dream.
Born on March 30th, Kirara is 13 or 14 years old during the series and has the blood type O. She was raised in New Zealand, and her mother is a painter, an influence that gifted Kirara with a strong sense of color and design. Despite her prodigious talent, she is known to have been somewhat lonely and pampered as a child.
Kirara has a distinctive and memorable appearance, with large violet eyes and cotton-candy blue hair that features lilac-pink stripes, which she wears in curled bangs and two thick, braided buns. Her personality is often described as fluffy, free, and unrestricted. She is a natural airhead who lives by her own pace and frequently surprises those around her with her sudden, unexpected actions and ideas. A notable quirk is her catchphrase, a drawn-out “Meeeee~~~hhhh!!” which reflects her fondness for sheep, her favorite animal. Kirara herself owns a pet sheep named Caroline.
Kirara’s primary motivation stems from her deep admiration for Elza Forte, the powerful and charismatic top student who leads Venus Ark. Before enrolling, Elza discovered Kirara and validated her unique, eccentric approach to styling, which others had criticized. Invited by Elza to perfect her radiance, Kirara joined Venus Ark and became one of its three representative idols, alongside Elza and the cool-type idol Rei Kizaki. In this role, she holds the Mercury’s Wings, a set of stellar wings that signify her elite status, and is consistently ranked as the number two idol in the world.
Throughout the story, Kirara’s most significant relationship develops with Ako Saotome, a student from the rival Four Star Academy. Ako originally planned to create the FuwaFuwa Dream brand, but Kirara unexpectedly secured the contract first, creating initial friction between them. However, Kirara takes a genuine liking to Ako, persistently inviting her to become a co-muse for the brand. Despite Ako’s initial refusals, Kirara’s earnest and friendly nature eventually wins her over, and the two not only share the title of brand muse but also form a performance unit together called FuwaFuwa Dreamer.
Kirara’s role in the story evolves from a whimsical supporting figure to a key player in the main conflict. She deeply respects Elza and is initially content to follow her, but she ultimately disagrees with Elza’s plan to disband the Venus Ark. Along with Rei and another friend, Aria Futaba, Kirara works to change Elza’s mind by persuading her mother to watch her final performance. After Elza’s emotional reconciliation, the Venus Arc is renamed Neo Venus Ark, and Kirara continues her journey as an idol, eventually representing New Zealand in the Aikatsu World Tournament alongside Ako.
In terms of abilities, Kirara is a genius-level idol with excellent instincts and a vivid imagination. Her talents go beyond performance; she is also skilled at drawing and designing clothes. She has a playful and creative approach to her work, once expressing the idea that “pop is yellow,” which made fellow designer Ako see her in a new light. Despite her many strengths, she has a notable weakness in cooking; the dish she once made was described as having a strange shape and a terrible taste.
