Description
Gundula Rall is a veteran witch hailing from Karlsland who serves as the commander of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing. She holds the distinction of being the third-greatest ace in the Karlsland Airforce, and by extension humanity, with a kill count that places her behind only Erica Hartmann and Gertrud Barkhorn.

Her path to becoming a commander was marked by a severe injury. During the evacuation of Karlsland, her field of view was blocked by Neuroi debris, and she was struck by an unlucky shot that resulted in a severely broken back. Told she might never fly again, she underwent extensive medical treatment with the help of a Viennese healing witch and completed nine months of rehabilitation, demonstrating immense determination to return to the front lines. To manage her old injuries and prevent them from flaring up under the high G-forces of dogfighting, she wears a specialized corset made of magically woven fibers.

Gundula's personality is marked by a strong and confident demeanor. She takes to her role as a leader with enthusiasm, acting less like a strict superior and more like a brash, frankly spoken older sister to her subordinates. Despite the severity of her position, she is not overly serious and maintains a laid back and good humored personal nature. She has the courage to reassure those around her with a smile, no matter how grim the situation. She possesses a sharp eye for talent, having quickly recognized the potential of the problem child pilot Marseille and later scouting Waltrud Krupinski, Naoe Kanno, and Nikka Katajainen, who became known as the Crusher Trio, to form the 502nd.

Her primary motivation is to protect her subordinates and fulfill her duty as a commander. In combat, her favored tactic is to fly with the Crusher Trio, leaving the practical command decisions to Flight Lieutenant Pokryshkin, a strategy that proves effective in managing the diverse personalities within the 502nd. She is known for her cleverness and strategic thinking, sometimes using underhanded methods to recruit talented witches, a trait that has drawn criticism from other leaders like Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke. Her key relationships include her close advisor Edytha Rossmann and her members, whom she oversees with a pragmatic and open minded approach, as seen when she gave Hikari Karibuchi an extended trial period to prove her worth to the unit.

Gundula's most notable ability is her inherent magic known as Deflection Shooting. This skill allows her to anticipate a target's trajectory and shoot precisely where it is going to be, a talent described as having an artistic flair for dogfighting. When she utilizes her magic, her physical features manifest with wolf like ears and a tail, reflecting her familiar. She pilots a Striker Unit modeled after the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and is typically armed with an MG 42 machine gun.
