TV-Series
Description
Kurenaino Aria is a black magic agent operating out of Kichijoji. Her real name is Ria Minase. After her parents died when she was ten years old, she lived with her older brother in the Kurenaino mansion. School life brought some bullying, but she found genuine happiness spending time with her brother. That stability ended when he was killed in a traumatic incident, leaving her deeply scarred and turning her toward the occult. She reinvented herself as Aria Kurenaino and established a small shop in Harmonica Alley across from Kichijoji Station, where she takes clients seeking curses.
Physically, she is short with a listed height of 145 centimeters, long brown hair that reaches her waist, bangs falling across her eyes, and brown eyes. She dresses from head to toe in Gothic-style clothing. Outwardly she never shows emotion and speaks in a cold, detached manner reminiscent of an aristocrat, maintaining this mask even when dealing with unsettling subject matter.
Her personality is guarded and deliberately impassive. Behind that stillness, however, grief and a desperate hope drive her. She believes curses are born from tragedy and has dedicated her life to black magic as a way to eventually reunite with her brother. This personal motivation shapes all of her actions, making her both a competent professional and someone who refuses to let go of the past.
As a curse agent, she offers her services under the handle Black Rose. She can place curses on targeted individuals provided she obtains a sample of their hair and the necessary information. In her spare time she fashions and repairs cursed dolls, deepening her craft. Her work is solitary and methodical, but her reputation within occult circles is notable.
Aria is intrinsically linked to the mass-casualty event known as the 256 incident, being recorded as one of its victims. The case draws her into a wider supernatural mystery that she cannot ignore. She becomes an uneasy ally of Yuta Gammon and his group, cooperating to uncover the truth behind the mass suicide. While she initially keeps her distance, their shared goals gradually pull her out of her self-imposed isolation.
Key to her abilities and her emotional life is the spirit Kiryu Kusakabe. He acts as her silent devil, a protector and associate who aids in curse placements. Only Aria can perceive him, and their bond formed after she devoted herself to black magic following her brother's death. Their relationship remains professional, but he is the one constant presence in her world. Through him she maintains a direct connection to the supernatural, which she leverages in the investigation.
As the story progresses, her cold facade softens slightly through contact with the group. The search for answers about the 256 victims and the conspiracy behind it forces her to confront not only the external threat but also the unresolved grief that has defined her life. Her evolution moves from a detached curse proxy to someone willing to fight alongside others for a cause beyond her personal tragedy, while still holding onto the hope that her path might one day lead her back to her brother.
