Description
Haruki Bandō is a first-year sociology student at Meishiin University and one of the central figures in the formation of the university's male cheerleading club, the Breakers. He is a young man with brown hair and hazel eyes, possessing a slender and light physique that is naturally well-suited for the demanding role of a flyer, the member of a cheerleading team who is lifted into the air during stunts.

Haruki was born into a family deeply rooted in the world of judo, as his family runs a dojo. Following the family tradition, he and his older sister, Haruko, practiced judo from a young age, with his childhood friend Kazuma Hashimoto often joining them. However, Haruki eventually began to feel the pressure of the sport and confronted his own perceived limitations as an athlete. An injury to his shoulder provided an opportunity for him to step away from judo, a sport in which he had failed to find genuine happiness. His departure from the judo club coincided with that of his best friend, Kazuma, who had already quit.

Kazuma, whose own parents were cheerleaders, then invited Haruki to start an entirely new venture: an all-male cheerleading team. Though initially hesitant and shy, Haruki was genuinely interested and helped his friend recruit members and build the team from the ground up. Leaving the family tradition of judo created a significant rift with his sister, Haruko, a successful national-level competitor who disapproved of his choice. Haruki eventually confronted her and attended one of her competitions to offer his support, which helped them rebuild their close bond.

In terms of personality, Haruki is characterized by his gentle, shy, and quiet nature. He is not naturally outgoing and struggles with aspects of cheerleading that require being the center of attention, such as smiling broadly and shouting enthusiastically while an audience watches him. He also privately contends with a fear of heights, a significant challenge for someone expected to be launched into the air as a flyer. Despite his timidity, Haruki possesses a quiet inner strength and is not afraid to stand up for his friends, even if it means stepping far outside his comfort zone to support them. Within the team, he often takes on a nurturing role, making the rounds during practice to check on everyone's safety and well-being, which has earned him the affectionate nickname of the "mother hen" of the Breakers.

Throughout the story, Haruki's primary motivation is his passion for cheerleading, a sport that captured his heart after his friend showed it to him. While watching his sister compete, he would cheer for her from the sidelines, and it was this act that led Kazuma to recognize that Haruki had a natural and powerful ability to encourage others. His journey is one of profound personal development, as he works diligently to overcome his introverted personality and his specific fears in order to become a reliable member of the team. His relationship with Kazuma Hashimoto is the cornerstone of the series; Kazuma is the one who understands him best, convinced him to start the team, and remains his steadfast partner throughout their struggle to build the Breakers. As a former judo athlete, Haruki has a background in physical conditioning and discipline, which helps him adapt to the rigorous and athletic demands of cheerleading, a sport that requires a unique combination of strength, flexibility, and trust in one's teammates.
