Description
Nobunaga Oda is a key character in Drifters, based on the historical daimyo who nearly unified Japan during the Sengoku period before his death in the Honnoji Incident in 1582. As a Drifter summoned to a new world, he has physically aged only six months since his arrival. He retains his historical reputation as a brilliant and ruthless military commander, and he carries an arquebus in battle, reflecting his pioneering use of firearms in Japanese warfare.

His personality is marked by a sharp, calculating intellect and an intimidating presence. He is cunning, pragmatic, and highly ambitious, driven by a desire to build a new state in this unfamiliar world. He approaches every situation with thorough preparation and a no-nonsense attitude, often displaying a manipulative and insidious side in pursuit of his goals. Yet, he is not without emotion; learning that his son Nobutada died fighting to the end evokes a tragic reaction, revealing a depth of feeling beneath his cold exterior.

His primary motivation is to establish a multiracial federation in the new world, with Toyohisa Shimazu as the symbolic leader. He is fascinated by the technological potential of this world and seeks to replicate and advance black powder weaponry. He wants to succeed where he historically failed, forging a lasting empire through a combination of strategy, psychology, and firepower.

In the story, Nobunaga serves as the central strategist and tactical mastermind for the Drifters. He manages the group's overall tactics and directly commands the arquebusier squad. He forms a tactical trio with Toyohisa Shimazu and Nasu Suketaka Yoichi, where Nobunaga provides the cold, calculated plans that balance Toyohisa's impulsive frontline aggression and Yoichi's precision archery. He acts as a mentor to Toyohisa, often reining in the younger samurai's rashness with logic.

His key relationships are shaped by this dynamic. He shares a mutual respect with Yoichi, though he frequently teases him. With Toyohisa, he forms a partnership of strategist and enforcer, though he often manipulates and guides Toyohisa toward his own ends. He also interacts with Olminu, a mage of the Octobrist Organization, often teasing her about her appearance and her organization's perceived incompetence.

The character undergoes development from a cynical observer who sees the new world as a second chance to the active architect of a multiracial coalition. He shifts from merely exploiting the chaos to building a structured resistance against the Ends and the Black King, reconciling his past failures in Japan with a grander ambition for this new world.

His notable abilities lie not in supernatural powers but in his strategic genius and his mastery of firearms. He is the brain of the Drifters, excelling at psychological warfare, tactical planning, and efficient resource management. His historical expertise in organizing volley fire with arquebuses translates directly into his command style, making him a formidable leader in battle despite lacking any magic of his own.
