Description
Joan of Arc, also known as Jeanne d'Arc, appears in Drifters as a version of the famed French military leader and saint from the Hundred Years' War. Her historical identity as a heroine who led France against the English is the foundation for her character, but her fate has twisted her into something far different from her legendary image. In this story, at the moment of her death by burning at the stake for heresy, a mysterious entity named Easy offered her a second chance in an alternate world. She accepted and was reborn not as a holy warrior, but as one of the Ends, a group of historical figures who serve the enigmatic Black King and are tasked with destroying humanity.

The trauma of being burned alive is the central event that defines her personality. It drove her completely insane, transforming her into a woman of intense rage, a short temper, and a profound sadism. Her primary desire is to watch the world burn, an obsession directly connected to her own agonizing death. In battle, she is brutal and reckless, unleashing her destructive anger and devastating power without restraint. This overconfidence, however, is a significant weakness; she openly taunts her enemies and boasts about her supernatural abilities, a habit that marks her as a novice in the eyes of more seasoned warriors like Shimazu Toyohisa. Despite her madness, she retains a fierce loyalty to the Black King and her comrades, particularly Gilles de Rais.

Her role in the story is that of an antagonist and a direct threat to the protagonist group known as the Drifters. She is one of the first Ends to actively hunt them down, leading an attack on their position with Gilles de Rais. In her confrontation with the samurai Toyohisa, she demonstrates her signature ability: powerful pyrokinesis. She can generate and control high-temperature flames, likely a manifestation of her death on the pyre. Her armor is adorned with an inverted cross, symbolizing her fall from sainthood. During their fight, she briefly overwhelms Toyohisa, but her lack of discipline and his tactical cunning lead to her defeat. He exploits a well to neutralize her fire powers and, refusing to kill a woman, defeats her with a headbutt.

Key relationships heavily influence her actions. Her bond with Gilles de Rais is particularly notable. He remains devoted to her as his "little maiden," and his death at the hands of the Drifters fills her with a burning desire for vengeance against Toyohisa. Within the Black King's army, she seems to be regarded almost as the youngest member, with figures like the Black King and the sorcerer Rasputin showing concern for her safety, despite her ferocity. She shares a tense rivalry with the calm and collected Anastasia, who often chides her for her recklessness. After her defeat and rescue, she recovers and vows to continue fighting, indicating that her rage and mission to destroy the Drifters only intensify over the course of the narrative.
