Description
Axel Nishigori is one of the triplet daughters of Yuuko and Takeshi Nishigori, making her a member of the family that runs the Ice Castle rink in Hasetsu. She is easily identified among her sisters by her hairstyle and color motif: she wears her brown hair in pigtails and is associated with the color purple. Like her siblings Lutz and Loop, she has a round face with a prominent blush on her cheeks, brown eyes, and slanted eyebrows that resemble her father's. The triplets almost always wear matching outfits, with Axel's sleeveless hooded jacket, gloves, and other accessories appearing in her signature purple.

Axel is a young girl who is incredibly passionate about figure skating, a love she shares with her parents and sisters. This passion has earned her and her siblings the reputation of being the Skate Otaku Sisters. She is shown to be quite intelligent and tech-savvy for her age, fully capable of using smartphones and video cameras to record skating performances and manage social media. Her personality is also marked by a mischievous streak; she and her sisters often stay up late to watch competitions or post online, much to their mother's exasperation, and they secretly record skaters. Axel is direct and unfiltered in her comments, as seen when she greets Yuuri Katsuki by remarking on his weight gain.

The triplets' deep interest in figure skating serves as a primary motivation for their actions throughout the story. Their knowledge of the sport is extensive, and they are eager to share it, even offering to explain the complexities of the Grand Prix circuit to others. This motivation drives them to take initiative, such as when they organize the Hot Springs on Ice event to facilitate a face-off between Yuuri Katsuki and Victor Nikiforov. Perhaps most significantly, Axel and her sisters are the ones who posted the viral video of Yuuri performing Victor's routine, an act that directly leads to Victor becoming Yuuri's coach and sets the main plot in motion.

In her role within the narrative, Axel, as part of the triplet unit, acts as a catalyst for the story and a source of enthusiastic fandom. The triplets represent the new generation of skating fans and use modern tools like social media to engage with the sport. They provide exposition and context for the audience, helping to explain the rules and stakes of the figure skating world in a natural way. Later in the series, during the Grand Prix Final, Axel and her sisters form a cheer squad to support Yuuri from their home at Yu-topia Katsuki, highlighting their role as dedicated fans.

Axel's key relationships are primarily with her family and Yuuri. She has a close, if sometimes exasperating, relationship with her mother, Yuuko, who frequently scolds the triplets for their late-night habits but is also the one who likely instilled in them their love for skating. Her father, Takeshi, is her physical resemblance. Axel and her sisters are huge fans of Yuuri Katsuki, whom they have known since birth, and they are very casual and forward with him, often posting about his skating and personal life on social media. The triplets also work closely with Minako Okukawa to plan the Hot Springs on Ice event and sit with her during it. They form a bond with fellow fan Kenjirou Minami, cheering on Yuuri together during the finals.

As a set of young triplets who function as a unit, individual character development for Axel is not prominently featured. The sisters act as a cohesive group throughout the series, and their collective role remains consistent from their introduction to the end. They begin as energetic fans who inadvertently change the course of the story and end as the same dedicated supporters, celebrating Yuuri's achievements. Regarding notable abilities, while it is unknown if they compete themselves, the triplets are shown to be able to perform spins and can be seen wearing skates, indicating they have at least some practical figure skating ability. Their true strengths lie in their deep, encyclopedic knowledge of the sport and their skillful use of technology and social media to engage with the figure skating world.
