Description
Gurazeh is a supporting character introduced in the second season of the 2015 anime adaptation, titled The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance. He is a sea merchant and the captain of a trading vessel operating out of the southern Parsian port city of Giran. Gurazeh is described as a tall, muscular man with good looks, sun-tanned skin, and short black hair. In the anime, he wears a piece of red cloth around his head and carries a short sword at his waist, fitting his image as a man of the sea.
Gurazeh has a friendly and talkative personality, and he is also a brave warrior and a shrewd businessman. He is a man of action whose skills are demonstrated through his deeds rather than through complex schemes. Because of his maritime background, he has traveled extensively, spending roughly one third of his life in Pars, one third in Serica, and the remaining third on his vessels. His mother is from Serica, and as a result, he is highly polyglot. He claims to be able to greet people in twenty different languages and insult them in thirty.
Gurazeh first encounters Prince Arslan and his party when they come to Giran seeking funds and allies to continue their campaign against the Lusitanian invasion. He is initially discovered when the group rescues him from an attack by pirates, which leads to a fateful meeting with the prince. Following this introduction, Gurazeh becomes a valuable and loyal ally to the Camp of Arslan. His primary role in the coalition is logistical and financial. He is put in charge of managing supplies, transportation, and provisions for Arslan's army. Using the water routes of the Oxus River, he moves essential materials such as food and medicine to support the advance towards the north. He also commands a contingent of three thousand soldiers stationed along the river to secure supply lines and protect against further pirate attacks. Narsus, Arslan's strategist, regards the acquisition of Gurazeh's services as a major boon for the campaign.
While Gurazeh quickly becomes a trusted and friendly comrade of Daryun in the anime adaptation, the original novel series presents a slightly different dynamic. In the source material, Daryun is noted to be less fond of Gurazeh's overly familiar and boastful attitude, even privately comparing him to Rajendra, a man he famously dislikes. Nevertheless, even in the novels, the young prince Arslan is captivated by Gurazeh's adventurous tales. His character remains consistent as a capable and courageous mariner whose expertise is crucial to the rebellion's survival and success.
