Description
Ilterish is a prominent antagonist introduced in the second season of the anime, The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance. He is a young and ambitious general from the neighboring nation of Turan, a military state that takes the opportunity to invade the Kingdom of Pars while it is in a state of panic following its devastating defeat by the Lusitanian forces.

Ilterish is defined by his immense personal ambition and a notoriously violent temper. On the battlefield, this ferocity transforms him into a terrifying force, as he fights with the reckless abandon of a warrior who has gone mad, characteristics that earned him a fearsome reputation among his enemies. For instance, the Parsian general Kishward refers to him with a degree of wary respect as the mad warrior of Turan. Despite his aggressive nature, he is not a simple brute; his ambition drives a calculating side, as he seizes a critical moment of weakness in a neighboring kingdom to press Turan's advantage.

In the narrative of Dust Storm Dance, Ilterish serves as the primary field commander for the Turanian forces. He leads a large army in an assault on the eastern Parsian fortress of Peshawar, which is held by King Andragoras III. However, his most significant act of ambition occurs not against Pars, but within his own chain of command. After a series of battles against the Parsian forces, Ilterish becomes openly disdainful of his own king, Tokhtamysh. Viewing the king's decision to retreat and negotiate as acts of both personal failure and shameful cowardice, Ilterish violently kills Tokhtamysh in front of his shocked commanders and proclaims himself the new King of Turan. This act of regicide is the ultimate expression of his character, showing that his ambition and pride override any sense of loyalty or political order.

Key relationships in his story are defined by conflict and ambition. His primary antagonist is the Parsian army, particularly the forces loyal to King Andragoras. He shares a tense and ultimately fatal relationship with his former sovereign, King Tokhtamysh, whom he assassinates. He also leads other Turanian generals, including the swift warrior Jimsa, who acts as his rival to a degree. To his own followers, he demands a specific form of address, insisting they call him by the title Jinon, which means Royal Prince, a demand that underscores his lofty self-perception even before he seizes the throne.

In terms of development, Ilterish's arc is a rapid and decisive rise to power. He begins as a supremely confident and violent general and ends by murdering his king to claim the crown for himself. This act redefines his role from a foreign invader to a usurper king who must now consolidate his rule. As the newly self-proclaimed king, his motivation shifts from merely defeating Pars to proving his legitimacy through a swift and decisive victory against them, knowing that his power is not yet secure and that he must prove his worth to his own millions of subjects.

Notable abilities include his prowess in personal combat. As a warrior who fights like a man possessed, his raw strength and ferocity make him a deadly threat on the battlefield, capable of leading from the front and inspiring his troops through sheer force of will. His primary strategic ability lies in his audacity; he chooses to wage an aggressive, high-stakes campaign to quickly capture Peshawar and its supplies, betting everything on a single, decisive blow.
