OVA
Description
Jake is a modified human who serves as an antagonist in the OVA Noblesse: Awakening. He is a creation of the scientist Dr. Crombel and is affiliated with the Union, a powerful organization, where he is a candidate for its Assassination Squad. As one of the earliest and most successful modified humans, Jake is partnered with Mary, another modified human who also serves as his evaluator.
In terms of personality, Jake is characterized by his egotism, extreme aggression, and sociopathic tendencies. He revels in brutality, a trait he demonstrates during a massacre he orchestrates at a hospital. He holds a deep disdain for failed experiments, particularly looking down on individuals like M-21 and M-24. His aggressive nature often leads to him being scolded by his partner, Mary. Despite his volatile personality, he is shown to be reluctantly obedient to Mary, primarily because he acknowledges that she possesses more power than him. He also harbors a deep-seated loathing for being experimented upon against his will, though he is willing to subject himself to experiments if it is his own decision. This resentment extends to both Mary and Dr. Crombel, whom he feels look down on him, and he swears to take revenge on them.
Jake's motivations are driven by a desire for greater power and a brutal need to assert his superiority. His background reveals that he has already committed a massive massacre against the Union itself, killing 138 people in the very research center where he was created. The Union, recognizing his power, chose to overlook this atrocity and considered him for a position in their assassination squad. In the story, he and Mary are dispatched to a Union base in Korea on an assignment that brings them into conflict with the main characters. His role is that of a primary physical threat, engaging in battles against Frankenstein and later the noble Cadis Etrama Di Raizel. His development in the OVA includes an attempt to increase his power. After being wounded by Frankenstein, who stops his regeneration, Jake becomes frustrated. When Mary is absent, he forces the laboratory researchers to perform a new and risky experiment on him, which results in a more powerful transformation.
Jake's key relationship is with his partner, Mary. While she is his ally, their dynamic is tense, as he only follows her orders due to her superior strength. His relationship with other modified humans like M-21 and M-24 is one of pure contempt, viewing them as worthless failures. He also has a clear animosity toward Dr. Crombel, his creator, whom he intends to eventually get revenge upon.
Jake possesses notable abilities common to modified humans, including enhanced speed, strength, and a degree of regeneration. His signature power is an advanced transformation ability. Initially, he can transform his arms, which become purple and grow multiple pink blades. His most powerful ability is his full-body transformation, which he forces scientists to unlock for him. In this complete state, his entire body turns purple and is covered in crystal spikes, with his teeth becoming large fangs and his hair disappearing. In this form, his power is stated to be ten times greater than Mary's normal power. Despite this massive increase in strength, he is ultimately and effortlessly defeated by the noble Raizel, who overpowers him completely and destroys him.
