Description
Kazunobu Asanaga is a scientist and businessman from the surface world, specifically from Japan, and operates a technology company. He is a man driven by ambition and possesses a highly manipulative and calculating personality. His actions are largely motivated by a deep personal tragedy, as he and his wife, Makiko, lost their own unborn child. To fill this void and achieve greatness, he embarked on a plan that would have profound consequences for two worlds.
Asanaga was the first person from the surface to discover a gateway to the subterranean world of Endora. Upon arriving, he used his advanced knowledge of surface technology to enchant King Alzerm, the ruler of Endora. He deliberately gained the king’s trust and influence, all while harboring a secret, self-serving agenda. His primary goal was to acquire Warp Particles, the unique energy source of Endora, and bring them back to the surface for his own renown and to grow his company.
During his time in the Endoran court, he encountered King Alzerm’s brother, Delzaine, who was suspicious of Asanaga from the start. When Delzaine’s infant son, Shun, fell dangerously ill, Asanaga saw an opportunity. He offered to take the child to the surface to be healed with advanced medical technology. In reality, he had no intention of returning the boy. After Shun was cured, Asanaga and his wife became emotionally attached to the child, seeing him as a replacement for the son they had lost, and decided to raise him as their own, renaming him Shun Asanaga. This act effectively kidnapped Shun from his birth father.
His manipulative nature reached its peak when he finally revealed his true colors. After securing the means to extract Warp Particles, Asanaga shot and killed King Alzerm and sabotaged the energy-gathering machine he had helped build. When Delzaine demanded the return of his son, Asanaga coldly challenged him to come to the surface if he wanted the child back, before escaping to his own world. For fifteen years, he hid the truth from Shun, raising him as a loving but deceitful father. His ultimate plan was to harvest Endora’s Warp Particles to the point of endangering the entire world, all for his own ambition and fame.
Asanaga’s key relationships are defined by his deceit. He is the adoptive father of Shun Asanaga, the main protagonist, and the husband of Makiko Asanaga, who was complicit in keeping Shun after she became unable to let him go. He is the murderer of King Alzerm and the betrayer of Delzaine. This makes him the sworn enemy of Prince Emilio, Delzaine’s nephew, who seeks vengeance for his father’s death.
His character undergoes a subtle but crucial development. Despite his cold and calculating nature, fifteen years of raising Shun caused him to develop a genuine, paternal attachment. In the climax of the story, he is confronted by Emilio and Shun. At this point, he is given the chance to kill Shun to preserve his secrets, but he finds himself unable to do so. His newfound love for his adoptive son overrides his lifelong ambition. This hesitation allows Emilio to kill him instead, bringing his reign of manipulation to an end. Shun, despite learning the terrible truth of his origins, still mourns the loving father figure that Kazunobu had been to him for his entire life. Kazunobu Asanaga is a scientist and businessman from the surface with no inherent supernatural abilities. However, he possesses a keen scientific intellect and technological know-how, which he used to both impress and manipulate the royalty of Endora. He was also in possession of a small, blue-green Warp Relic, a crystal-like artifact that allowed him to travel between the surface world and Endora, a capability that was central to his entire scheme.
