Description
Over Justice, sometimes rendered as Overjustice, is the head of the Space Patrol's Ogikubo branch in the anime Space Patrol Luluco. He appears as a sentient skeleton wreathed in purple flames and, like the officers under his command, he possesses the ability to transform into a gun. He is most often seen seated at his desk, which can itself transform, and he habitually gestures with his index and middle fingers extended in the shape of a firearm.
As the leader of the Ogikubo branch, he oversees policing in a chaotic space immigration zone overrun by space criminals and is credited with protecting the district through what is described as the power of justice beyond justice. When Luluco arrives at the station with her father Keiji frozen solid by alien contraband, Over Justice appoints her as a temporary Space Patrol member so that she can earn the money needed to revive him. That decision makes him the direct cause of her entry into patrol work and places him at the center of the story's premise.
His personality is defined by an overwhelming devotion to justice, fitting for his name, and he peppers his speech with catchphrases built around the word justice. He delivers grand and dramatic speeches, yet he talks big while acting little, and he frequently relies on others, especially his secretary, to handle the actual work. He is also prone to impulsive decisions and jumping to conclusions, as seen in the first episode, when he repeatedly arrests and releases Luluco in quick succession. The purple flame that constantly burns around his skeletal body is presented as a manifestation of his sense of justice.
His motivation is to uphold justice and protect Ogikubo from criminals, and despite his bluster and inefficiency, his commitment is sincere. He serves as the commanding officer of Luluco, Alpha Omega Nova, and Midori, assigning them missions and directing patrol operations. He maintains a long professional history with Keiji, Luluco's father, and his over-the-top behavior leads Luluco to wonder how her father could tolerate working under him. Even so, he is a staunch ally to his officers and acts as a chaotic but genuine moral anchor for the branch.
Over Justice changes little over the course of the story, retaining his eccentric and bombastic character throughout. His most significant moment comes in the final arc, when he leads the Space Patrol in a charge against the Black Holeian to reclaim Ogikubo, showing that his grand talk of justice is backed by real resolve in a crisis.
In terms of abilities, Over Justice can transform his body into a gun, a trait shared by Space Patrol personnel, and his desk also transforms, presumably for similar operational use. His burning purple flame visually embodies his justice, and his authority as branch head allows him to recruit officers, assign missions, and command the defense of his district.
