TV-Series
Description
Chikako Ubukata is a first-year student at私立圣迹高等学校, where she is classmates with Tsukushi Tsukamoto and Jin Kazama. Standing 162 centimeters tall with a birthday on March 9th, she is a native of Tokyo with a slender build and a fashion-forward appearance. Her initial design features waist-length hair and sharp, steely blue eyes that convey an intense and overwhelming gaze, complemented by modern touches such as earrings.
Chikako possesses a strong-willed and often haughty personality, known for being direct and blunt in her communication with others. She carries herself with a sense of pride and can initially appear self-centered, expressing her disdain or frustration openly. Beneath this tough exterior, however, lies a more passionate and emotionally complex individual who becomes deeply loyal to those she comes to respect.
Before becoming involved with the soccer club, Chikako was deeply passionate about writing novels. After receiving significant criticism and experiencing repeated rejections in literary contests, she became disillusioned and decided to abandon her dream of becoming an author. This history of frustration is central to her character, as she initially reacts negatively to Tsukushi Tsukamoto. She finds his wimpy and earnest demeanor irritating, and his relentless daily effort frustrates her because he reminds her of her own past self and the dreams she gave up on. Her harsh treatment of him stems from this personal frustration rather than genuine malice.
Chikakos role in the story evolves significantly as she witnesses Tsukushis perseverance in the face of criticism from others, including herself. His unwavering dedication gradually inspires her to reconsider her own attitude. Moved by his sincerity and the genuine passion of the soccer team members, she decides to join the club as a manager. In this role, she moves from being a detached observer to a proactive and vital member of the team. She takes on responsibilities such as scouting opposing schools, analyzing their strengths and key players, and devising tactical strategies for matches. Her ability to absorb and process information quickly, a skill noted as speed reading, proves invaluable for these analytical tasks.
Chikako has a complex relationship with Tsukushi Tsukamoto. Although she remains rough with him after becoming manager, frequently calling him an idiot and taking advantage of his kindness to run errands, she genuinely cares for him as a friend. She is often the one to talk him out of self-blame after a loss or to mediate when he has a falling out with others. Her friendship with Jin Kazama is more contentious, as he frequently teases her about her flat chest, calling her derogatory names, which she responds to by beating him up. Despite this bickering, they are capable of working together, often observing matches from the bench and discussing tactics when Kazama is not playing. She also has a noted dynamic with Hiroyuki Kurusu, who similarly jokes about her figure.
Her motivations throughout the series center on reclaiming a sense of purpose and passion after her literary disappointments. By supporting the soccer team from the sidelines, she channels her drive and analytical mind into a new endeavor, finding fulfillment in contributing to the group`s success. She dislikes photo albums and has a fondness for cute mascot characters. Her favorite quote, "Pick your author like you'd pick your friends," reflects her literary past and her discerning nature.
