TV-Series
Description
Hyde, known in Japan as Hearts, is the younger twin brother of Phi and a member of the Turbo 4 in Beyblade Burst Turbo. He is a tall individual with pale skin, razor-sharp teeth, and long lavender-white hair with bangs often covering his right eye. Like his brother, Hyde has heterochromia, with his right eye being red and his left eye green. His battle outfit consists of a dark purple collar, a black bodysuit with yellow lines and violet plating, and a white robe with violet borders, all adorned with hexagonal designs. When he resonates deeply with his beyblade, Dread Hades, the ends of his hair turn rose pink and move like flames.
Background and Personality
Hyde and Phi were born into royalty and raised together in Dread Tower. As the younger sibling, Hyde always felt inferior to his brother, believing he could never catch up. A gift from their father of two beyblades, Dread Hades and Revive Phoenix, became a point of contention. Hyde chose Hades first, leading to an argument that severely strained their relationship. Hyde remained at Dread Tower while Phi left to pursue his own path.
In personality, Hyde contrasts sharply with his elder brother. While Phi is often portrayed as arrogant and destructive, Hyde is wild, extroverted, and boastful. He expresses his thoughts without hesitation, often acting like an entertainer who seeks to thrill his audience, as seen in his first match with Aiger Akabane. He is known for his left-handed battling style, a mirror to Phi’s right-handed technique. Although he shares his brother’s ability to resonate with his bey and feel the damage it receives, Hyde is not driven by malice and has no desire to destroy other beys. He possesses a level of maturity beyond his brother, as shown when he scolded Phi for blaming his losses on his bey instead of understanding his own failings. Despite his confidence, Hyde can become frustrated when he loses, such as in his battle against Valt Aoi.
Role in the Story and Key Relationships
As a member of the Turbo 4, Hyde is a formidable opponent. He develops a particular interest in Aiger Akabane due to Aiger’s strong resonance and creates a challenge where Aiger must battle through Dread Tower for a rematch. This reflects his desire to draw out and test the power of other strong bladers.
The most significant relationship is with his twin brother, Phi. Their childhood rivalry, marked by Hyde’s constant losses, developed into resentment and a fierce competitive drive. This tension culminates in a direct battle where Phi destroys Hyde’s bey, Dread Hades, and steals its energy to create Dread Phoenix. Despite this betrayal, Hyde remains concerned for his brother, watching his subsequent battles and attempting to reason with him. In the end, after Aiger defeats Phi, the brothers reconcile. Hyde also maintains an association with Evel Oxford, allowing him to keep a laboratory at Dread Tower despite being aware of his superficial loyalty.
Development and Notable Abilities
Hyde’s journey is one of confronting his deep-seated inferiority complex. The central conflict of his arc occurs when he finally faces Phi, a moment he had anticipated since their childhood argument over their beys. Although he loses his beloved Dread Hades, the experience and the ensuing events lead to a mending of the rift between the twins by the season’s conclusion.
Hyde is a highly powerful blader, primarily using his beyblade Dread Hades 11Turn Zephyr'. His greatest power is his intense ability to resonate with his bey, which allows him to physically feel the damage his bey takes, and his battle rage intensifies with each blow. His special moves include Dread Impulse, where Hades channels energy into its layer to deliver a devastating weight-based attack, and Dread Gravity, where Hades uses a vortex to launch the opponent upwards. Several details distinguish him from other bladers, including his left-handed launches, a red Level Chip for his bey, and a birthday on February 29, shared with his twin brother.
