Description
Masaya Hinata is the main protagonist of the visual novel Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue and a supporting character in its anime adaptation. He is a second-year student at Kunahama Institute, located on a four-island archipelago south of Japan. Masaya was once regarded as a prodigy in the aerial sport known as Flying Circus, but after suffering a devastating defeat he turned his back on the sport entirely. His life changes when a cheerful transfer student named Asuka Kurashina arrives at his school and unexpectedly demonstrates a natural talent for flying, reigniting his own passion. Masaya initially keeps his distance from Flying Circus, but he is gradually drawn back into the world he abandoned, ultimately taking on the role of coach for Asuka and the other members of the Kunahama Flying Circus club. He is described as a young man with slightly spiky, short chestnut-brown hair and green eyes, standing about 1.72 meters tall. His personality is marked by a certain stubbornness, especially regarding his own feelings and past, but he is also caring and supportive toward his teammates. His primary motivation is to help others love the sky as he once did, and through guiding them he rediscovers his own joy in flying. Masaya's key relationships include Asuka Kurashina, who inspires his return; Misaki Tobisawa, a former FC player who brings experience to the team; Mashiro Arisaka, a devoted first-year student; and the siblings Shion and Madoka Aoyagi, who help form the club. He also has a complex dynamic with Rika Ichinose, a rival school student and his neighbor. Throughout the story, Masaya develops from a reluctant former competitor into a passionate mentor, learning to overcome his past defeat and embrace the sport again. His notable abilities include a deep understanding of Flying Circus techniques and strategies, sharp analytical skills, and the ability to coach others effectively, drawing on his own prodigious experience.
