Description
Philphie Aingram, also rendered as Philuffy Aingram in some adaptations of the story, is one of the principal characters of Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle. She is introduced as the second daughter of the Aingram Financial Conglomerate, a powerful and influential merchant house, and the younger sister of Relie Aingram, who later serves as the principal of the Royal Officer Academy. Philphie is a seventeen-year-old student at that academy and is recognized as a childhood friend of the protagonist, Lux Arcadia, whose family was connected to the Aingrams in the past.
Her background carries a heavy and tragic history. Seven years before the events of the main story, the Aingram family was associated with the old Arcadia Empire, during which time Philphie and Relie came to know Lux and his younger sister Airi. The Aingram household took Lux and Airi in after the death of their mother. Philphie and Lux did not get along at first, as she was reserved and rarely showed emotion, but a turning point came when Lux took the blame for damage caused by others that had been meant to implicate her. When she realized the truth of what had happened, she thanked him with a cookie, and the two began a close friendship, with Philphie affectionately calling him Lu-chan and asking him to call her Phi-chan. Later, she was chosen as a test subject for experiments conducted by military authorities of the old empire, which were designed to fuse humans with an entity called Abyss. A seed of the Ragnarok Yggdrasil known as Ratatoskr was implanted in her, leaving her in a state that resembled death. Lux was devastated when he discovered her, though his memories of the incident were eventually erased by another character, Fugil Arcadia. She was revived after several days when the organization called Sacred Eclipse administered Elixir to her, but because the seed remained inside her, she became a human-Abyss hybrid. Since hybrids were regarded as threats under New Kingdom law, her sister Relie concealed the truth and arranged for her to be trained in martial arts by Magialca Zen Vanfrick, a captain among the Seven Dragon Paladins, so that she could learn to control her unusual strength. Her suffering was also a motivating factor behind Lux's decision to join a coup against the empire, a connection he no longer remembers.
In terms of personality, Philphie presents herself as a gentle and easygoing young woman with a sleepy expression and a somewhat absent-minded manner.
