Description
Felix Argyle, who prefers to be called Ferris or Ferri-chan, is a central supporting character in the fantasy world of Lugnica. He serves as the personal knight and most trusted confidant to Crusch Karsten, a formidable noble and candidate for the throne. Ferris is a member of the Royal Guard, yet he stands apart from his peers due to a unique combination of traits: he possesses the physical features of a demi-human, adopts the appearance and mannerisms of a girl, and holds the distinguished title of "Blue" as the kingdom's most powerful healer.

Ferris has a slender build, standing at 172 centimeters tall, with shoulder-length light brown hair and striking yellow eyes. His most prominent features are the soft cat ears atop his head, a physical inheritance from distant demi-human ancestors. He almost always wears a blue and white dress, black tights, and a distinctive white ribbon in his hair, a treasured gift from Crusch given during their childhood. His movements and speech patterns are deliberately effeminate and playful, typically ending sentences with a cat-like "nya" or referring to himself in the third person. For all his girlish charm, Ferris is unequivocally male, a fact he is open about.

Despite his cheerful and often mischievous exterior, Ferris possesses a deeply serious and complex inner world. His personality is a study in contrasts. On one hand, he delights in teasing the stoic Crusch to see her flustered reactions and often comes across as a playful, if slightly impish, friend. On the other hand, his profession as a healer has given him a stark, almost grim, perspective on life and death. He has guided many patients through their final moments and has no patience for those who treat their own lives carelessly or lack the will to survive. This dichotomy makes him surprisingly blunt and harsh, especially when he perceives arrogance or self-destructive behavior in others.

Ferris's entire life and identity have been shaped by his profound loyalty to Crusch Karsten. This bond originated from a traumatic childhood. Born to human parents, his demi-human ears led to accusations of infidelity against his mother, and to hide the perceived scandal, his family kept him imprisoned in a basement for nearly the first ten years of his life. He was rescued from this abusive home by a young Crusch and her father, and he was subsequently taken in and raised by the Karsten household. This act of salvation instilled in him an unwavering devotion. Much of his feminine presentation is a direct result of his relationship with Crusch; it is both a personal choice and a symbolic act of service. He has dedicated his existence to supporting her, to the point where his own well-being and happiness are almost entirely secondary to hers.

His relationships with other characters are primarily defined by this singular focus. To Ferris, Crusch is his savior, his lord, and the object of a deep, unspoken romantic love. His feelings for her eclipse all other considerations. His relationship with the protagonist, Subaru Natsuki, is initially very tense. Ferris views Subaru as reckless, arrogant, and dismissive of his own life, which offends Ferris's deeply held principles as a healer. This friction is more pronounced in the original web novel, where Ferris is openly hostile, but he remains a sharp critic of Subaru's tendencies in all adaptations. However, after witnessing Subaru's desperate and selfless fight against the White Whale and the Witch Cult, Ferris's respect for him grows, though his concern is always filtered through the lens of a medical professional, fearing for the consequences of his recklessness. He is also a close friend of the Sword Saint Reinhard van Astrea and the "Finest Knight" Julius Euclius, but even these friendships are secondary to his duties to Crusch.

In the story's narrative, Ferris plays a crucial role as the primary medical authority. He is often responsible for healing the wounded, including Subaru on several occasions, and his abilities make him an invaluable asset in any major conflict, such as the battle against the White Whale. Because of his immense healing power, he is not a frontline fighter. Instead, his strategic value lies in keeping others alive and operational. The story also explores the limits of his power and the fragility of his emotional state. When Crusch loses her memories after an attack, Ferris is devastated, demonstrating that his cheerful facade is a shield against deep-seated fears of loss.

Ferris's development is subtle but significant. While his unwavering loyalty to Crusch remains constant, his worldview is challenged by his interactions with Subaru. He is forced to confront his own biases about what it means to be strong and how far one should go to protect what matters. Over the course of the series, he evolves from seeing Subaru as a mirror of his own worst qualities to acknowledging his genuine determination.

His abilities are extraordinary and focused almost entirely on water magic. Blessed with a Divine Protection of Water, Ferris is a master of healing magic, capable of mending fatal wounds and curing diseases. His skill is so renowned that he is hailed as the kingdom's greatest living water mage and the youngest person to ever hold the title of "Blue". Beyond healing, he has a more sinister application of his power; by manipulating the water within a living body, he can control a person's movements like a puppet, disrupt their internal organs, or even perform a form of mind control. He is also capable of a forbidden ritual known as the "Immortal King's Sacrament," which can theoretically resurrect the dead, though the results are often imperfect and dangerous. Despite his lack of physical strength and conventional combat skills, this combination of healing, sensory, and covert offensive abilities makes him one of the most uniquely powerful individuals in the realm.
