Description
Kadomon Risch is a fruit seller operating a stall in the capital of the Kingdom of Lugunica. He is a muscular and firmly built man with slicked-back green hair and blue eyes. A prominent white scar mars his face, which, combined with his rough manner of speaking, gives him an intimidating and somewhat thuggish appearance. He is often seen with a small twig in his mouth and typically wears a black vest with gold trim. Despite his formidable looks, Kadomon is a dedicated family man, married to a beautiful woman named Raksha, and has a young daughter named Plum. He works hard as the head of his household to provide for them, though his fierce expression is noted to be bad for business, scaring away potential customers.
Kadomon's personality is a contrast to his outer demeanor. While he speaks in a blunt and unfriendly manner, he possesses a good heart. He is a hardworking and empathetic individual who, despite his gruff exterior, shows genuine concern and kindness toward others. This is particularly evident in his interactions with the protagonist, Natsuki Subaru, whom he often helps when he sees the boy confused or in distress.
In the story, Kadomon serves as a significant point of contact for Subaru, so much so that fans have nicknamed him the Save Point NPC. He is the first inhabitant of the new world that Subaru speaks to after being summoned. In the first major arc, Kadomon and his family become a key part of the events in the royal capital. Subaru and Emilia assist him in finding his lost daughter, Plum. In gratitude, Kadomon provides information that leads them toward the loot house where an important insignia has been taken. In subsequent time loops, the encounter with Kadomon and the search for his daughter remains a constant event, helping Subaru understand the nature of his Return by Death ability. He reappears in the third arc when Subaru and Emilia return to the capital, though Kadomon has completely forgotten their previous promise. He engages in a brief political discussion with Subaru, voicing his opinion that the royal selection candidates most likely to win are Priscilla Barielle and Anastasia Hoshin, and expressing his confusion and opposition to the candidacy of a half-elf, which forces Subaru to confront the prevalent prejudice in the kingdom.
Kadomon's key relationships are primarily with his family. His love for his wife and daughter is a central part of his identity and the reason he is so distressed when his daughter goes missing. He also has a casual acquaintance with Rom, the elderly owner of the loot house. His relationship with Subaru is less a friendship and more a recurring and reliable acquaintance. Subaru frequently buys apples from his stall, and Kadomon often finds himself unwittingly caught up in Subaru's loops, serving as a familiar landmark and a source of information or indirect support.
Kadomon does not undergo significant character development, as he is a supporting character whose role is to provide stability and a sense of normalcy in the ever-resetting world. His circumstances and personality remain largely consistent, making him a reliable point of reference for Subaru and the audience. He does not possess any notable magical or combat abilities, his skills being those of a merchant and a provider for his family. His significance lies in his role as a consistent, friendly face and one of the first people to offer Subaru aid, cementing his place as an integral part of the story's early foundation.
