Description
Madoka Takatori is a main character in the anime Shonen Maid. He is the younger brother of Chiyo and the uncle of Chihiro, the young protagonist. Madoka is a skilled and well-known costume designer who often works from his home, though he occasionally takes on assignments in hotels or other locations. He is known for being selective about the clients he accepts, a reflection of his dedication to his craft.

In terms of appearance, Madoka is a handsome young man with short blond hair and dark blue or gray eyes. His elegant look is frequently contrasted by his very relaxed, even slovenly, habits at home. He lives in a large, spacious house that quickly falls into disarray because he is not inclined to clean or manage household chores himself.

Madoka's personality is layered. On the surface, he is eccentric and playful, often wearing a smile and acting in a childish or silly manner. He can throw tantrums and appears to be something of a recluse, rarely leaving the house. However, beneath this carefree exterior, he is capable of becoming very serious and focused, especially when it comes to his work as a designer. This shift in demeanor shows a mature and dedicated professional side that contrasts sharply with his usual behavior. He also has an almost obsessive love for cats, despite suffering from a cat allergy that makes this passion impractical and often amusing.

The story begins when Madoka takes in his nephew, Chihiro, after the death of Chihiro's mother, Chiyo. Madoka had a promise with his sister to protect her son should anything happen to her. Instead of simply offering a place to stay, he proposes a practical arrangement, a give-and-take relationship, where he provides living expenses, food, and a home in exchange for Chihiro taking over all the housework. This arrangement is rooted in Madoka's concern that Chihiro would feel indebted or uncomfortable if he were simply kept without contributing. It also conveniently solves the problem of Madoka's own inability and unwillingness to maintain his home.

Key relationships define Madoka's role in the story. His bond with Chihiro is the central dynamic of the series, evolving from a practical agreement into a genuine, caring family connection. Madoka's childhood relationship with his older sister Chiyo is also significant, as his promise to her forms the emotional foundation for his decision to care for Chihiro. His interactions with the house butler, Keiichiro Shinozaki, and the young girl, Miyako Otori, further flesh out his character, as he often designs clothes for them as well. He also designs costumes for an idol unit called Uchouten Boys.

Throughout the series, Madoka shows subtle growth. While he retains his eccentric and lazy habits, his commitment to Chihiro and his sense of responsibility deepen. He gradually becomes more open and reliable, though he remains largely the same whimsical person at heart. His most notable ability is his exceptional talent as a costume designer, a profession he takes very seriously and in which he demonstrates great skill, often working late into the night on his creations.
