TV-Series
Description
Ko Yagami is a highly skilled character designer working at the game development company Eagle Jump. At twenty-five years old, she has long blonde hair, blue eyes, and a height of 164 centimetres. She joined the company straight out of high school and quickly became the lead character designer for the game Fairies Story, the very game that inspired protagonist Aoba Suzukaze to pursue a career in character design. Over the course of the story, Ko is promoted from character team leader to art director.

Ko approaches her work with intense passion and a perfectionistic drive. She often stays overnight at the office to finish tasks, sleeping there in her underwear, a habit that her close friend Rin Toyama frequently scolds her for. Although she has a laid-back and sometimes playful demeanour, she can be stern and exacting with her subordinates, expecting high standards. This strictness stems not from malice but from her own commitment to quality and her desire to help others grow. At the same time, Ko battles her own insecurities, and her perfectionism can lead to self-doubt when her creative choices are challenged.

In the past, Ko was socially withdrawn and harsh, speaking bluntly in ways that alienated her seniors. After that behaviour caused a new recruit to quit, she recognised the need to change and made a conscious effort to become friendlier and more approachable. By the time Aoba joins the company, Ko has cultivated a more outgoing and supportive personality, though she still occasionally struggles with jealousy or frustration when her work is rejected. Key moments of growth include learning to set aside her pride to support Aoba’s design success and accepting the role of art director after being encouraged by her team.

Ko’s primary motivation is to create characters that players will fall in love with. She sees her craft as a way to connect with others and takes immense satisfaction in bringing concepts to life through fine details. Her artistic talent is exceptional; she can visualise intricate designs and collaborate effectively with her colleagues. She also values mentorship, investing time in guiding Aoba’s development as a designer. Over the series, her evolution from a rigid perfectionist to a more empathetic leader underscores her commitment not only to her art but to the people she works with.

Her relationship with Aoba is central to her role in the story. Aoba admires Ko immensely and looks to her as both a role model and a teacher. Ko, in turn, pushes Aoba to improve while also learning to listen and trust her junior’s instincts. Ko shares a close, long-standing friendship with colleague Rin Toyama, who serves as a grounding presence and is not afraid to call her out on her quirks. She also works alongside Hifumi Takimoto, eventually handing over the character team leadership to her. The bond she forms with these coworkers highlights her capacity for loyalty and collaboration. By the end of the anime, Ko transfers to a game company in France, a move that reflects her continued ambition and willingness to embrace new challenges.
